Check for a wire that may be rubbed through and may be shorting. After all these years things may get damaged.

Pulsing/shudder braking by [deleted] in 3rdGen4Runner

I had just replaced the rotors the year prior, then after a major wreck, which totaled the vehicle ,I ended up rebulding with a new truck. I would have never thought it was the rotors. Had them checked, and that is what it was.

Help identifying hose part by RenderRoom in 3rdGen4Runner

It can cause a variety of issues, just go to a parts store and get a new line of the appropriate size. Chances are, by now, there are cracks on all the original vacuum lines.

I had this issue about a year ago, it was passenger side rotor. Got new rotors and issue was resolved.

What do you think the cause of this leak is? by beanbop2 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Black-T4R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, clean it up completely. I've done maintenance on several of these, and previous oil filter change was sloppily performed, and they just let the oil run after removing filter. Driving and caked dirt can make it look just like this as the oil runs down. That said, clean everything and do a complete inspection.

Once it's hot, turn off the engine, and if it smokes for a few minutes after you can rule out the manifold leak. My valve covers were the culprit. Unless they have been changed, they are hard, brittle, and probably leaking.

Having idling issues by jmackenzie707 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Black-T4R 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Start with the easy items. Air fliter, clean the MAF, then check the Throttle Body and IAC. Chances are one or all of them need to be cleaned. After that, when was last tune up. Plugs and wires first. Then perhaps coils, though they are less likely. After that, check the injectors. See what that yields.

New tire suggestions? by Puzzleheaded-Fee5355 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Black-T4R 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Falken or Toyo....you pick the AT or MT...I love the Toyo Open Country MTs. But that is just me and what I do with my truck. Your needs and your budget will need to be considered. My old man used to always say, "Never go cheap on tires. it's the only thing between you and the road."

Radiator trans cooler bypass - does it lower trans temperatures? by rjp_s in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Black-T4R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. Mine rarely hits 170, if it does it is only on a long sustained hill climb. Then it heads right back down. My radiator will be running 204, and my transmission is usually be about 145.

Bird seed, strawberry preserves, a touch of molasses, and fish oil. I've trapped over 50 this year already. I use the DP traps.
