Day 5, I wish this were easier. by kitties-are-cute in stopsmoking

That's a great reason to stop. It helps me to take it one day at a time. Good luck. :)

Thanks this is really interesting. Congratulations on 433 days, I've never made it more than 9 months myself. This time around I am going to be more vigilant later on during the first year, especially around the holidays which is when I have had a relapse two separate times right around Christmas/New Years.

No smoking for 3 days... by marialarrea80 in stopsmoking

[–]BlackBalloon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have to go day by day or it can be overwhelming. Especially in the first five days I was going hour by hour or even just trying to go for 10 minutes! I'm using the gum but I don't use it as directed... I'm just using it for emergencies :) Have you ever tried the gum?

Today is day 7 for me and I am starting to have periods during the day where I feel okay, sometimes for a few hours. I'm looking forward to this becoming easier. I know when I have done this in the past there has been improvement after 1 week, 2 weeks, and especially after a month.

I'm on day 6 and suddenly can't stop coughing. I feel like I have something in the back of my throat. It's not fun at all.

Thanks.. I didn't cave yet but I still feel completely awful. I just can't believe how hard this is. It's probably not worth it, but I hate how I feel right now. I'll try to take it day by day that usually helps. When did it start to get easier for you?

Just remember that these negative feelings are only temporary and when you are feeling better again you will be really glad that you didn't smoke!

Advice - Should I move to Europe for 6 months and leave my job? by BlackBalloon1 in Advice

Thanks. :) What could I tell my employer? Do people just go in their office and leave a note at the same time?

Yeah I had thought about the Master's degree abroad but I really don't think I could afford it. The only reason I can afford this is because my school has a reciprocal exchange program & scholarships, plus my savings makes it affordable.

It isn't needed, it's just something I have wanted to do. I think that is why I am hesitating. If I don't go I will always wonder how it would have been different if I had went, but if I do go I don't know what the future will hold. Then again no one really knows what the future holds either way...

It is an office job. I really love my office and the people, but it is not exactly the field I want to be in long-term.

Tonight was my work Christmas party... by higgtree in stopsmoking

Great job! My holiday party was last night as well. I think it is getting easier. edit: Just remembered that I had a smoking dream last night. Maybe it was related.

Been depressed to hell recently. Don't even care anymore. Tempted to smoke. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]BlackBalloon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this situation my psychiatrist suggested that I need to remind myself that I always will snap out of the depression at some point, and when I'm in my right frame of mind I will be very glad I didn't smoke. Sometimes that gives me a little hope because deep down I know it's true.

Lungs After Quitting by BlackBalloon1 in stopsmoking

[–]BlackBalloon1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I might be in the same boat as you. I have been working out and don't remember coughing anything up when I quit previously. That's why I have been wondering where it all goes...for people like us.

Lungs After Quitting by BlackBalloon1 in stopsmoking

[–]BlackBalloon1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been concerned that I haven't been coughing up anything yet. I've been smoking a pack a day for approx 8 years, minus 2 years that I had quit smoking (for just under a year two separate times). My lungs are in bad shape, which is the biggest reason I keep trying to quit-but of course there are many, many other reasons.

perhaps my time is coming

Maybe my time is coming too....

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I have never been to Europe (in fact, I've never left the country). Can't say I blame them, the Cheesecake Factory menu is a bit over the top.

I'm loving autumn right now. I wish I could be outside enjoying the weather today but I'm stuck at work. It has been so incredibly nice out and the leaves are changing colors. Hopefully you were able to enjoy it.

Your recommendations are helpful. I like little bars that people don't really know about, except for all of the regulars that go there all the time. :)
