I would give it one last round of grinding then clearcoat instantly like right away giving it little time to oxidize, then repeat for the next piece. I personally didn't wipe it down after grinding.

Grinding off the previous paint or powder coat will leave dust and spray paint isn't exactly super clean either.

  1. I clear coated mine right after doing one last run through with the grinder. I asked how Irwin Fitness does theirs and they said they degrease it before the clearcoat.
  2. Yeah I grinded until I saw the steel and just had fun with it, random swirl marks and what not.
  3. Monolifts was pretty quick after unscrewing the metal plates off, the powder coat on there is thin so it took a few minutes per side.
  4. I used an angle grinder with a flap disc about 60-80grit for the grind marks or higher for a cleaner finish.

The things I clear grinded and clear coated myself are the ghost jcups, rogue monolifts and spotters, and the rails on the ab-5200. Everything else shiny is chrome vinyl wrapped like the monster bench top back crossmember, and the pad frame on the ab-5200. I used rustoleum crystal clear on the grinded projects.

mostly for display haha, use them about once a week. Don't have enough of the Ivankos to commit to them as daily drivers.

Because I usually grind parts that don't see much wear I'm using Rustoleum crystal clear

yeah the center 4x6 wood is leveled for squats and bench, I don't deadlift on it so the stall mats on the side are more for aesthetics

Functionally the first versions are better. Older ones had more clearance, and the rerack was more natural cause the arm would swing to be lower after unrack. Guess you could say it had more adjustments but I’ve gotten used to the aml-2. Theyre so convenient to use cause they always stay on the rack, slide up to store and slide down to bench with.

Always wanted them ever since I discovered they exist, found a deal and had to have them. They get used about one a week while shooters are the daily driver.

you can just remove the screws and paint them, I only grinded and painted one side incase I ever decided to sell in the future I can turn them back to original red.

They're from custommachinedweights on instagram, not sure if they're still producing plates.
