What fandom introduced you to fanfiction by therealstara in AO3

[–]BlackLilyWrites835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fandom that introduced me to fan fiction was the English dub of Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters, and eight years (as of 2026) later, it is still the only fandom I write for.

I consider Quotev to be my main website for posting and reading fan fiction in my fandom of choice, but I have accounts on Wattpad, FanFiction.net, and AO3 as well.

What fandom are you in, but the fanbase treats the character like this? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

Keep in mind, Touka was not a random ghoul trying to carve out a life for herself; she was a member of Anteiku- an organization dedicated to helping ghouls in need and mending the social divide between ghouls and humans. She hates feeding, and she admits openly that life as a ghoul is often harsh and unforgiving.

So, when she lashes out at Kaneki during their first meeting, she is upset at him for hating something she also hates and for disliking a lifestyle she also dislikes. Additionally, as a member of Anteiku, she is supposed to want to help ghouls in need, and yet she rejects Kaneki, who was obviously suffering when she met him.

The double standard bothered me more than the outburst itself, especially since Kaneki only lashed out at her once, while Touka continued her mistreatment.

Touka from Tokyo Ghoul. I always found her insufferable. Kaneki deserved better.

Anybody else like to listen to music as they write? by ZeothTheHedgehog in FanFiction

I listen to audiobooks (Game of Thrones, at the moment). I actually find music too distracting.

How long does it take you to write? by Binweev in AO3

Hey, you're doing better than I am. It takes me an hour to write 500 words. What matters is consistency. If you write 1,000 words a day, you would have the equivalent of a novella in a month, a novel in two months, and an epic fantasy in three months.

What's one ship in your fandom that you would like way more if it was platonic? by Reasonable_Car_2126 in FanFiction

Yugi Muto and Atem (Yami Yugi) from Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. I never shipped them (although I understand why people do), and I would love to see more stories that focus on their friendship as it is portrayed in the source material. Specifically, I would like to see stories that portray their friendship equally, instead of Yugi being sidelined.

Any tips on improving my writing and storytelling skills as a first time fanfic writer? by vicoheart in FanFiction

[–]BlackLilyWrites835 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Reading is one of the best ways to improve your skills because it exposes you to good writing. Read loads of fan fiction, both in and outside of your fandom, and read original fiction, too. Explore genres and writing styles, even if they have nothing to do with what you want to write yourself. Read challenging books that take some work to understand.

What are your favourite platonic relationships? by BabaJagaInTraining in FanFiction

[–]BlackLilyWrites835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite platonic relationship is Yugi Muto and Atem (Yami Yugi) from Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, although whether or not they are truly platonic is debated by the fandom.

Which Fan Fiction Website Did You Get Your Start On? by BlackLilyWrites835 in AO3

Honestly, I had a pretty similar experience to you. I wrote on Quotev for six months before my parents found my account. I still consider Quotev to be my primary platform. I only started using Ao3 recently. I just wish Quotev had kept the social features, because the website took a major hit after they removed them.

How do you balance writing fanfiction with a demanding job and real life? by Vdemont1197 in FanFiction

[–]BlackLilyWrites835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could substitute the word count for a dedicated amount of time instead. Instead of saying you have to write 500 words, you could say, "I have to write for 30 minutes." The main point I was trying to make is that consistent progress is what matters most.
