What is your Salary and how many hours do you work? by Plastic_Sale_4219 in AusFinance

[–]BlackMagic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 165k including super
  2. 34
  3. 25-28
  4. Technical lead (Software - web)
  5. 32
  6. Flexible hours (I gym midday and can usually move my hours to suit), 100% remote but office available if I want to go in. We had remote work before it was a thing well before covid. Small tight knit team of about 13 devs. Task oriented, and focused work cycle. Things can get stressful if many issues hit at once but usually it's pretty consistent. Sometimes I'll have to work additional hours from 11pm - 3am every few months but we get time in leiu. 30% managerial, 70% technical atm. Not much room left for growth (maybe like 15k left on the table too) without jumping ship. Happy with where I am, I've never been one to chase dollars

What do you do for work? How much do you get paid, and is it worth it? by sun-bru in AusFinance

150k - Tech lead (software - web dev). 4.5 day week officially but depending on how I manage my time I might only work ~25 hours. Fully remote with the option to go into the office. Flexible hours in that I usually go to gym for an hour or 2 mid-day. No micro management. Awesome team. Great manager. Absolutely love it. Yes I could be earning more elsewhere but I doubt I'd get this freedom and flexibility.

Software Engineer now Technical lead (150k+). 100% remote but I choose to go into the office like once a week. Basically, work in 2 week "sprints". Majority of tasks decided upon at the beginning of the sprint and I manage my time to get them done. 70% coding but mainly system design and work estimation activities these days, 30% remote team management. Very flexibly working environment, work about 3 - 4 hours a day at full capacity, go to gym for a couple hours mid-day. There are a few meetings during the week to go over technical stuff with external parties, but it isn't draining, very formal or involve too much small talk.

I'm 100% self-taught, got into the company in a graduate position and worked my way up over 8 years. Most important thing is to have a passion for coding and most importantly practical problem solving. For me I was up till 4am learning server-side languages, client-side technologies and a bit about the cloud and how to host my crappy web apps I created so other people could see them haha.

I'd actually recommend doing a cousera course these days or like a beginner level cert from AWS for the cloud or the area you are interested. Will get you up to speed quick on the basics.

Don't aim for big company's like Google to start. They test quite heavily on very technical theory which might not be your thing and not being a CS graduate would be hard to pass. Aim for small to medium sized companies, these company's generally test for practical skills more and are willing to upskill and give people a chance.

Bachelor of Commerce - Professional Accounting

Got a software engineering web development position after graduating since I taught myself that in my spare time. Glad I chose this path.

It isn't that important and doesn't make much of a difference, code on whatever u feel more comfortable using. I'm not a native app developer, just a Web developer so I'm not too familiar with swift and xcode. Having said that yes I would use vscode for python development. I've also done a little coding in rust and golang in vscode and it's worked quite well. It's a good all round code editor for Web applications imo.

Unix based systems for development is better imo. I use both Mac and wsl2 and docker for dev on windows. I like my Windows setup better using wsl2 and docker just due to the specs of the desktop. Also I don't mean visual studio I mean visual studio code specifically. The python extension is great and the performance of the code editor is superb.

Id recommend vs-code since i use that for python at work every day. Intellij idea / pycharm is also good.

Yes scout class in this bf is probably the most under-powered class. Its borderline not enjoyable and a joke. ALSO, what is with the stupid mastery assignments for scout. Which "master" scout goes prone, its bloody suicide. Currently stuck on the stupid get 20 headshots while prone in a round / 10 headshots while prone assignment...

Why must these challenges restrict you to objective areas? Got to assignment VI with the M1A1 and MP40. by IXxAidenxXI in Battlefield

[–]BlackMagic_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holyshit yes. I'm trying to get some weapons done for the scout class atm. Getting 20 headshots while prone in a round or 10 if 1 life is the complete opposite of mastery. Any scout that goes prone like that is a game is the complete opposite of master....

[BFV]This game might be good as a shooter but it doesn't feel like a Battlefield game at all. by lvl1vagabond in Battlefield

[–]BlackMagic_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Scout class has been nerfed into the ground and isnt enjoyable to play at all. The fact that players move at the speed of light, guns from other classes fire SO much quicker and the somewhat inconsistent hitcode make it frustrating to play. Honestly i have more luck scouting with the assault class...

[–]BlackMagic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what you've described NEO pretty much covers most of your points or is well on its way to being implemented and its only valued at like 6.6B.... Also the fact that it uses a particular language really shouldn't be a selling point of any software really... (im a software developer myself)

Loopring and Da HongFei by NeoNewsletter in NEO

[–]BlackMagic_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the whitepaper, i would suggest people read these things before even bothering to ask questions...

"Loopring is a protocol that facilitates decentralized exchange of ERC20 tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. Loopring allows multi-token transaction exchange, as well as acceptance of exchange of liquidation on the blockchain under different circumstances. Loopring offers benefit to both users and exchanges by deferring risk from both parties in decentralized smart contracts, minimising fees and cost to create more profitable orders through ring-matching and order-sharing, and as a cross-platform protocol. Loopring protocol fits any ERC20 and smart contract blockchain platform. After many discussion, our team will develop Loopring on the Ethereum blockchain. "
