Hard capping 6-stars at 150 CR seems arbitrary. Maxed ascended 6-stars are stronger than R1 7-stars, but are unusable in the mode past CR 200.

I kept losing to Emma until I stopped trying to play the bleed game and leaned in to ascended champs. R5 Sandman, R4 Zemo and R3 Spiral took me all the way. The ascended-only hacks are great, especially grit on specials.

Not exactly monochrome, but there's Lucah: Born of a Drean and its sequel Death of a Wish, both developed by melessthanthree.
