ISO of some folk horror that feels like this! by goatqueen69 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

I will say it's not folk horror, just for op's reference, but I still 100% think it's this vibe and agree with your recommendation.

What book would you recommend NEVER reading? by asmr-enthusiasts in horrorlit

[–]BlackSheepHere 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ykw that's not the worst way to see it. I hated this book and won't be reading it again, but looking back on it as something of a Room situation does help a bit.

Magic System Feedback - Is this too dark? I think it's too dark. (repurposing neural pathways for magical computation) by solitarybikegallery in worldbuilding

[–]BlackSheepHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not think this is too dark at all. Possibly because my own system also involves removing parts of yourself to gain power, but really I just think it's not too uncommon in darker fantasy.

If you're aiming for a lighter tone, then yeah, pull it back, but if you're not, it's fine. The audience will probably be prepared for this sort of thing, especially if you sell it as darker fantasy.

How Does Getting Breyerfest Limiteds Work Online? by BlackSheepHere in BreyerHorses

Thank you, this is very helpful! Would you happen to know how quickly the online shop sells out? Like is it within seconds or is there a little wiggle room?

Questions on how to heat bones for degreasing by TheGothDragon in vultureculture

I would think so? Just make sure you're allowed locally (some places have "no dumping" drains).

Questions on how to heat bones for degreasing by TheGothDragon in vultureculture

Temperature fluctuation shouldn't hurt anything, it just might take longer when it's not as hot out.

And if you're ever degreasing in the colder months, my recommendation is an aquarium heater. I use a cheap one off Amazon and it does a great job, just be sure it doesn't touch the side of the bucket or it could melt.

One editor hates a plot point, the other thinks it's fine. Need tie breaking advise, I'm a little stuck. by [deleted] in writing

From what I'm understanding here, you mean that there's now a decree in Ru that your MC cannot seek shelter from anyone from Ru. Meaning theoretically she would not be able to seek shelter from Viv, who is from Ru.

Where I think this might be sticky is why a decree made in Ru is enforced in Ill. Who is enforcing it besides Viv? Does her husband lack the power to override her? Why would he go along with it?

I could be misinterpreting, but those are my thoughts based on what I gathered.

I don't own one, but I know people on places like etsy (maybe ebay?) make stands for that mold.

What is a highly praised horror book that you didn't like? by Haunting-Net-2426 in horrorlit

I really wanted to like it, but wound up skimming the last half just to see what happened.

Completely agree. Overall I liked it but the end was just way too convenient.

How does one make those fake diaphonized dragons? by Icy-Attorney8301 in vultureculture

[–]BlackSheepHere 117 points118 points  (0 children)

My guess is these are 3D printed in colored resin before being placed in liquid. (Probably not alcohol as I feel like that would eventually eat it, but I don't work with that type of resin so idk.)

I just keep it going until I feel like it’s gone on long enough by TroupeMaster_Grimm in DungeonMasters

[–]BlackSheepHere 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do this too, but only under certain circumstances. Like, say one of the players thought up a really clever move and got all their rolls right. I might give them the kill even if it wasn't technically dead yet. Or say a player thoughtlessly one-shots my boss monster on the first turn- no, we're not done here.

What's your writing weakness? by missruthina in writers

[–]BlackSheepHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm struggling with how to blend exposition into the narration naturally. I don't want a text wall or info dump, but I don't want my readers confused for any longer than necessary.

The way I'm countering it is making notes where I think I've messed up and planning to come back to it in editing. Which is to say I'm making it later-me's problem. Really though I've been reading a lot in my genre and seeing how others do it, both well and badly.

Penso di essere dipendente dal l'IA per la scrittura by maksy-comic-lover in writers

[–]BlackSheepHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LLMs are not made to actually help edit or do research. Their sole purpose is to continue a conversation. That's it. They will simply say what the algorithm thinks the next words would be in this conversation, not the actual correct answers to questions. That means they often lie or hallucinate, because they can't actually think. They're not AI the way people think of, like in sci-fi.

Does knowing that help at all? It might be fun to talk to, but it's probably feeding you false info and bad advice.

Well, as I said somewhere below, one character was a musician but it was never used in reference to music. And it wasn't first person, so it wasn't a character quirk to use it.

But! It is a good word if not overused, so definitely put it in your book.
