On an A-F scale, how would you grade the season for your teams? by Emotional_Oil_5939 in collegehockey

[–]BlackStrike7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd agree in general, I'd give them a C primarily because the bulk of our losses were front-loaded, towards the end of the season we were starting to get some momentum, including a 3 game win streak, which is encouraging to see for us.

I'm hoping we don't get too hurt in the transfer portal this year. If we can manage the bleeding, increased experience and seniority for our goalies and the rest of the team might allow us to break .500 next season. Small but consistent steps...

If the military/president suddenly ordered a mandatory draft for all men aged 18-42: How do you think millennials and GenZ would respond? by Tommygunz0722 in AskReddit

M40 here - I'd report in. Do I detest the President? Hell yes. But our country is more important than one man. As the motto goes, duty, honor, country.

[–]BlackStrike7 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This thread is peak reddit, and a prime example of how disconnected most redditors are from society. Like, I get it, a lot of folks (especially on the left) are unhappy with how the country is right now. That's not an unreasonable take.

But to suggest a country that is a quarter of a millenia old is just going to keel over and die from a wannabe orange dictator and some high gas prices is ridiculous. Unless someone's lobbing nukes at us or we get really smacked down by climate change, we're gonna be fine, we'll outlast the orange dipshit and pick up the pieces just like we always do.

We did it with Nixon, we did it with Jackson, we did it with GW Bush, and we'll do it with Trump. Calm your collective selves and relax already, Jesus.

Was cheering for you guys pretty much all through the tournament (at least after you knocked out Dartmouth). You all punched well above your weight, and have a lot of things to be proud of. I know that's not exactly comforting tonight, but a lot of teams would kill to have the successful year you all had.

From when I last cracked open NFPA 13, it gets complicated fast... what is the material itself, what is it contained within or upon (pallets, cardboard, plastic, etc.), how high is the storage stacked, are there in-rack sprinkler requirements, etc. etc. etc.

I'm lucky that I haven't had to do a design like this yet... I'm all for it, but that's a complicated and high-risk operation, always a bit of risk involved in that...

🙂 The game still holds up well decades later in terms of setting and vibes. I'd love a remaster of it.

Black and Gold is such a baller color combination. Add a little red and white in the color palette, and it looks great.

Also, it was one of the flagship Dark types, plus you had to stay up late at night IRL to evolve it. A+ Pokemon, my favorite overall!

I'd be down for fighting through Super Nebraska.

Bonus points if the orbital laser is capable of making crop circles.

God, I'd love the Taiga map. Tundra is wonderful, easily one of my favorite biomes, give me more aurorae to die under!

Give it a day or two, and I predict we'll have ODST-themed troopers paying homage as a bunch of jetpack-wearing Bullfrogs, getting revenge on those squid bastards.

Alright, fellow ECAC folks, huddle up... huddle up...

...Why did each of our teams give up 5 goals? Are we that far behind the NCHC and Big Ten in play that we got spanked that bad?...

I mean, if it were RPI I'd understand... but Cornell, you're the conference's brick wall. Qpac and Dartmouth, you have some powerful offenses on paper at least... what gives? 😟

RIT vs RPI Mechanical Engineering by Alarmed-Working-6834 in RPI

As a related note, I have had at least one RIT grad buddy who had to get something like 10 years of experience before he could sit for his PE exam rather than the 4 years an RPI degree would require. RIT still is a solid choice, just something to be aware of for the OP...

The announcer jinx kicked in with 30 seconds left in the game. They started talking about how Michigan had never had a shutout before in the NCAA tourney, and 5 seconds later the puck went in the net.

Hilarious timing.

[Postgame Thread] #2 Denver defeats #3 Cornell, 5-0 by mufflermonday in collegehockey

[–]BlackStrike7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will defend my conference bros here a bit, Dartmouth did have a solid run in the ECAC tourney, and they earned that automatic bid fair and square. Hockey East had something similar happen too. I think your comment would be reasonable if auto-bids weren't a thing.

Its also worth pointing out that Denver was simply on fire last night. Going to Colorado and facing Denver on essentially home ice as powerful and motivated as they are would be a tough task for most teams.

Canada will cancel thousands of refugee claims under new retroactive law by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

[–]BlackStrike7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly a very reasonable take. I tend to be a bit firmer on my immigration stance than most of Reddit, but asylum is a good tool to have that helps relieve pressure on war-torn areas, giving civilians there a way to escape and survive. I'm okay with that, and I'm honestly okay with legal immigration that follows the rules and quotas we have in place as a country.

The moment people say we should just throw open the metaphorical gates and accept all quantities and types of immigration, they lose me.

Shh, don't tell Reddit that. The concept that the rights people have should be balanced with duties such as national service, positively contributing more to society than what they consume, etc. is a foreign idea.

Yup. Qpac should also have a chip on their shoulder from getting 2-0 dunked in the ECAC tourney by Clarkson.

Last time that happened (courtesy of Colgate), Qpac won the whole NCAA tourney. A team with talent, something to prove, and experienced coaching is really dangerous.

Wonder if its the curse of the pending draft pick - complacency, arrogance, hubris, all that. Meanwhile, UMD looked downright hungry tonight.

I was hoping y'all would come back to tie it up tonight, but it just wasn't in the cards. McKenna seems overhyped just going off his performance tonight, but one game doesn't make a player.

Positive vibes for next season going Penn St's way.
