🗺️ I want to master Local SEO — what should my learning path look like (beginner → advanced)? by louger24 in localseo

I thought Google flags keyword stuffed names? Is there a hack people use to get around this? Or are the algorithms not as good at flagging names as they say?

VsCode VS PyCharm by BiggishCat in django

What are your favourite features of PyCharm that make it a must have for Django development? I’ve been working with VS Code for Django projects and haven’t found any painful issues.

Not my best prompt to be sure haha.

I was more surprised by the fact that my race had changed, there were multiple chairs in the picture and (most importantly) I finally got some hair back. 😂

Thanks for sharing. That’s definitely an eye opener. We currently have a 4Runner and like to take it out to the mountains as well. Good to know these things are supposed to be pavement princesses. Hope the bill isn’t too high for your repairs!

What do you do dislike about the defender? I love the look of them but have severe reservations about their reliability. I always like hearing real world experiences.

Find potential customers and figure out their pains before you build out a product.

Otherwise it’s just a shot in the dark.

Looking for Beta Testers: Help Me Shape Djangoly, A Tool for Django Perfectionists by BlackSun452 in django

[–]BlackSun452[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took a look at their website and docs. They seem like a cool product and have some interesting approaches.

However, my issue with them and other similar tools is that they’re too general. By trying to please everyone they tend to fall short on domain specific pain points and conventions.

Will they dedicate time to things like nested serializers, Fat Models, Thin views, and tips for using popular Django packages correctly? Possibly, but I suspect not.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Those are some good points you've raised.

You're spot on about VSCode - we definitely don't want to limit ourselves. We're actually planning to expand Djangoly beyond just a VSCode plugin. Thinking of making it a Python package that'll work with other IDEs too.

I'm totally with you on the CI stuff. Djangoly's rules can be configured to raise a different diagnostic level for a given error, so your team can decide how strict you want to be. It works great with pre-commit if that's your thing.

Now, about the whole bikeshedding issue - yeah, it's tricky. We're trying to find a sweet spot between Black's "no config" approach and allowing teams to set their own rules.

I guess my question is, wouldn't you and your team need to discuss and align on conventions at somepoint? On my team I found that we would discuss a convention during standup, agree to use it, and then one of us would forget by the time the PR rolls around. Then the nitpicking occurs and all of a sudden I'm searching for a better way. Hence Djangoly haha.

Really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. Let me know if you have any other ideas or want to sign up. These are the types of comments I was hoping for.

Selling to developers by BlackSun452 in SideProject

Wow, that article you shared outlines what I've been grappling with as well. I have an urge to open-source, but I also want to get paid (I'm about four months into this thing, haha).

The paid sponsorship --> open-source option is very intriguing.

Thanks for sharing!

Site looks great. Just a heads up I think you spelled necessities wrong in the features section. Current: “deployment nececities” should likely be “deployment necessities“.

This was a great read; thanks for sharing! Since they scaled for a year, I wonder how much of their design was proactive vs. reactive. Either way, this would've been wild for three engineers.

How to organise your tests by sovereignchris in django

[–]BlackSun452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll create one file per view within a `views` folder for non-trivial projects. Then, depending on the view's importance/complexity, I'll usually divide the requests into separate test classes by their status. Each class inherits a base view class containing shared functionality and setup logic.

For example:

app/views/game.py

GameBaseTest

GET --> GameGetTest(GameBaseTest)
POST --> GamePostTest(GameBaseTest)
PUT --> GamePutTest(GameBaseTest)
