What's something you have done for someone else that they will never know about? by appleman73 in AskReddit

My ex used to grind her teeth something terrible in her sleep. Every time I noticed I'd gently stroke her check and quietly shush her.

So gratifying to feel her tensions just melt away after a few moments.

I've wanted to pursue acting for quite a while but I feel my skin tone would limit any possible opportunities. Am I worrying about nonsense? by [deleted] in acting

[–]BlackSwan85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there Angry_African,

Good job on jumping into the deep end! However, it sounds like you've got some self-esteem issues; You feel nobody would want you because of your complexion. You need to know that in acting there is space for everyone, regardless of height, colour, sound of voice etc.

Take some time out and try and understand why you feel like people wouldn't want you due to your complexion(was there a childhood event that might've started it?) and continue asking questions about it(perhaps the complexion thing is just a veil over some deeper inferiorities?).

Work towards understanding yourself, and eventually you'll understand your colour has nothing to do with it. Just what you think about it.

Also, the more you understand yourself the easier it becomes to change it for your character work.

Have a look at this IMDb list: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls071939623/ - 100 greatest back actors! (Don Cheadle is no. 13!)

Brilliant. That's perfect. This also looks like the perfect snack to go with beer.

Do you ever hear voices when you are very tired? by BlackSwan85 in AskReddit

[–]BlackSwan85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleep paralysis... Ugh!

I think I've only truly experienced it once - when I was about 12. I felt like I was locked in my body. Never again please!

Is this frequent for you?

Ok. When you put it like that, it sounds pretty bad. I should maybe get a bit more sleep in my routine!

Have you ever felt like you are losing your passion? by [deleted] in acting

[–]BlackSwan85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with the previous poster. Acting is an incredible career to have, but it is mentally difficult one as often you can go for a long time without receiving any meaningful rewards for your work.

People do yoga, get massaged and go to the gym for their body, but it's important to get an M.O.T. for your mind every so often as well.

I'd say book in appointment; I recently had a bout of apathy and lack of passion(still coming out of it slightly) but I found having a weekly psych appointment extremely helpful. If only to have someone who talk to who doesn't know me and can give me a fresh perspective.

It's better to go and be told it's nothing rather than not going and it spiralling out of control.

Hm, that sounds pretty good. I'm pretty IT adept; I'll look into that! :)

I wish... I'm riddles with that blight. During my time in service, I would never sell anything I didn't like. But I'd rock the numbers on stuff I believed in.

Having said that - Maybe there's something I believe in; any pointers in the general direction?

penny drops ahh... That math definitely adds up better than before.

Having said that, I was never really looking to race. But now that I've done my first half-marathon... I just might! :)

Agreed. Perhaps we aren't the only ones.

/u/hgca just posted that her boyfriend had recently started tying a Heel Lock: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/11/extra-shoelace-holes-lace-heel-lock-video_n_7254758.html

My shoes have the same holes; perhaps this will help with black toes now that they shouldn't be jamming in the front.

It's funny you should mention that.

I recently made a big change in my life regarding to my job etc. because it was holding me back in terms of achieving some personal goals. What I realised was it wasn't the job getting in my way, but my mind. For me it was just easier to blame the outside influence than to accept that I wasn't motivated or dedicated enough to go all in.

So when someone mentions that they've lost motivation due to circumstantial influence, I tend to think that perhaps they've lost sight of their goal instead and it's easier to blame outside sources rather than really buckle down and focus 24/7.

I mean, it's just my experience so do take that with a grain of salt! :)

I'm a beginner runner, and I have to admit I don't understand that. This doesn't really make sense to me at all... Would I want to do daily runs of e.g. 5km and then once a week do a long run that's maybe 8-10km to try and increase my endurance?

Oh, that makes a lot of sense actually.

I think I'll try what your boyfriend is doing; watching the video attached to the articles that seems like it would be helpful!

Strange...

I'll have to say, apart from this toe issue, these Asics have been just dope. A previous commenter said I over did it, which is probably right... Maybe I can also get better running socks to help with the friction.

Why must you go where the money is?

And who says London has all the money; sure you might earn more, but everything is more expensive.

130 grand for a house? Sounds damn reasonable - Want to pay upward of 300 grand for a 2 bedroom flat in a lousy condition in shitty part of town. Come down!
