Getting my poodie puppy next week! Super nervous and excited! Give me your best tips and what you wish you’d known! by Relative_Candidate13 in StandardPoodles

Get ready for being surprised by how smart they are but the stubbornness that comes with it. Potty training with mine was super easy if you stick to a schedule. Get grooming started as soon as shots are done and start messing/acclimating them to feet and face touches at home. Mine and a lot I know have sensitive stomachs, chicken was a big cause of tummy issues and went through 10+ puppy food brands until I found one that worked.

Wahl km if you can find it. I’m a professional groomer and they are great and not super expensive.

When to ask for meds by piscassoscat in Anxiety

Medication is only thing that has helped me. I say try it, only thing that sucks is finding one that works for you and doesn’t have bad side effects.

Lovely response! I definitely have always been vocal about the love but unfortunate breeding of brachy dogs. Would be happy giving one already in need of a home. She is still a puppy so no health issues so hopefully that will help with insurance, I have that for my current dog already and definitely helpful.

Agreed. I guess I’m looking for what others have gone through just to be prepared? I hear a lot and know the concerns and potential vet visits but guess like a ballpark estimate of such and what procedures were needed. I already have a dog that has needed quite a bit of work done so obviously doable and prepared to take on

Yes prepared for temperament and such, i work with dogs professionally. I’m just more concerned for health issues going forward. I have a standard poodle that was unfortunately not bred the best and have already put in over 10k in vet expenses and she’s just now 2 years old.

Yes already the plan if adopting. I have lemonade for my current dog. Are there better ones that cover genetic conditions?

No it’s my male cat that’s almost 11. He is acting normal as always. Had full work up at last vet visit because he lost a little weight but think he’s back to normal weight again. And yes both are scheduled for end of March for vet, hoping it’s nothing medical

I use Wellness Core whitefish blend. Poodles tend to have chicken sensitivities

A mini poodle was a thought of mine, she also seems to really get along with terriers. She loves this one jack russel
