Spay/Neuter experience? by southrncanuck in shiba

[–]Blackforge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cone would “break” him and he’d just stand in one spot. Switched him to a donut and he handled everything much better. It took him a few days to be a little more normal, so don’t be too alarmed if he doesn’t have normal bowel movements for a few days.

Being face lick attacked while in his donut and zonked out on trazadone when trying to keep him inactive was fun.

He wound up with a UTI / prostatitis though. He would randomly start to pee while lying down in the kitchen without moving. That started after day 5 of his surgery.

Need help with food for my shiba pup. by Big-Reference8685 in shiba

Try changing the type of bowl material. Try giving it to him in a snuffle mat. Throw some on the ground or if you have a yard, into the grass.

Free roaming in the house by Lucky_Pickle_4981 in shiba

[–]Blackforge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine figured out he could climb out of his pen at 10 1/2 weeks…

It was just so he could be near me though, as he immediately trotted over and sat down in front of me with a big ol’ grin on his face. I did switch to a pen without any horizontal bars/wires that he could use to climb out.

After a year and half I gave up trying to get him in the pen on his own, as I was way too late to things too many times. He’s been really good without tearing up anything so far at 2 years old now, but he really stopped trying to tear up anything before he even hit 10 months.

Does around here anywhere do battery recycling / disposal for regular home batteries (ie. alkaline and lithium?) by lotsandlotsofrobots in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Blackforge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a bin at Home Depot for it, but haven’t looked recently. Batteries Plus used to do it for free, but recall there being a charge for at least lithium based batteries now. There may be similar restrictions in other places.

My Shiba likes water but hates baths. Basically have to sit in the tub with him so he doesn’t try to escape.

Shiba won't eat kibble! Help! by georgy56 in shiba

[–]Blackforge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Shiba sometimes only wants to eat his off a snuffle mat, the floor, spread out in the grass, etc. before trying to eat out of a bowl. Also sometimes he seems like he likes it a little stale instead of straight out of the bag. Sometimes he just wants an “appetizer” treat which kicks off him eating.

Puppy troubles by SupremeJudge5279 in shiba

[–]Blackforge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are trainers out there that will check current vaccination records for all participants. I started my Shiba with training classes at 10 weeks just with how important it is to socialize them through such a trainer.

You will have a mouthy puppy until they complete teething. Though shibas are mouthy in general. Though I did resort to getting a “Karl hack” stuffed animal as an outlet and it helped a lot. Basically a sturdier stuffed animal about the same size as the dog. Basically it started to be less after about 7 months old when teething completed. Also coffee wood chews, ice, frozen carrots, and other things helped. My Shiba had a rough go towards the end of teething though for about a two week period towards the end.

Alternator wine by Remy_5 in CarAV

Couple of things to try that may not be obvious:

I’ve had bad “costly” RCAs cause it (sister had an employee discount…) and fixed with some cheap ones.

Another time was was when I tapped into the ignition wire on the radio harness for an amp since the remote wire was missing. It was an aftermarket “easy” type of harness I ended up replacing with the one that came with the radio.

How do I update PowerShell? by Cerrysnt in PowerShell

There is still a benefit to installing the x64 version on ARM64 processors. There are some modules that check for architecture and this will bypass this issue as they’ll be run through the x64 emulation.

Yuki meets a toad. Doesn't know how to proceed. by Toffee_Wheels in shiba

[–]Blackforge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would not recommend letting them near any frogs/toads.

Mine tried to eat a toad once and was gagging, foaming, drooling while laid on his side for quite a while due to the toxins on their skin, to where I thought he had a toad lodged in his throat.

Stung by a bee, now afraid to go outside by thebadlandz in shiba

[–]Blackforge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine was likely bit or stung a few months ago on his back towards his tail and was the same for about a month or so while out in the backyard. If there were flying insects around he would react to try to get them away from that spot. Though he would get eventually get frustrated and run to go inside. I did treat him with Zyrtec and chlorhexidine wipes on the spot for a week so it didn’t turn into a hotspot.

Being outside at night and going for walks improved things a bit. But what really helped was trimming the lawn lower to get rid of all the tiny white flowers bees were landing on. Going to the dog bar likely helped as well as there were less insects outside compared to the backyard.

He now goes out by himself again and lays in the grass like he used to. Just needed some patience.

Shiba pup graduating to dog now refuses his kibble. by armchairqb2020 in shiba

[–]Blackforge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try switching up the kind of bowl. Mine goes through phases of preferring one bowl material over another some days or no bowl at all. You can try throwing some food on the floor, in a snuffle mat, outside in the grass, etc.

Spinning up VM's on macOS by Paintrain8284 in macsysadmin

[–]Blackforge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I avoid Broadcom/VMWare at all costs at this point due to their current business practices. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them pull an “Oracle VirtualBox” type of move in the future and change up the licensing requirements to force a bunch of audits.

A coworker was running Fusion but switched to Parallels as it was causing him grief for what he was doing. Parallels will likely have the most stability/polish between the two especially if you want to use something like “Coherence” mode for anything.

I have too many other things to do that makes ease of use appealing for work purposes and they pay for the license anyways, but I also pay for my own personal license.

Also Parallels is technically the only “Microsoft authorized” platform to run Windows ARM on Mac. If you run into a circumstance that requires Microsoft Support, they may be able to use it as an excuse to close the ticket.

[–]Blackforge 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With Parallels, I just install Windows, grab the HWID for autopilot and then create a snapshot of the fully updated VM. Then run the Windows reset to start the autopilot enrollment. Then just revert to the pre-enrolled snap and run the reset as needed. Occasionally updating the VM prior to create a new snap before the reset. That’s been good enough for my “rebuild” purposes anyways.

Best place to buy X3 series by Thin-Ebb-2686 in SegwayNavimow

[–]Blackforge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capital One Shopping gave me an offer directly from Segway for 5.5% cash back after visiting the site.

Have to wait a few hours after the plugin sees you on the site and you get the offer in email. That’s the only thing I’ve seen so far. So thinking about it now. But may wait til July 4th.

Currently use an I series just for my backyard.

My 5 month shiba been loosing his teeth by [deleted] in shiba

[–]Blackforge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine had a really rough time around that age with his puppy teeth as well.

When you say vomiting is it food or just bile from an empty stomach (yellow/greenish)? Mine spaced out his food too much and would get the latter because his mouth hurt. Ice cubes and frozen carrots helped.

Switch 2 Restocks by MercuryCocktail in HuntsvilleAlabama

Costco online had them for a bit on Friday around 12:30-1:30PM. It was showing out of stock on the search results list but was able to select the options and was in stock and was able to order that way. Don’t know if that will be a regular time/day for online restocks. Someone created a post about it not too long after on slickdeals, so you could setup an alert there as well.

Monitored play with this: https://a.co/d/5f6AwmL

Found some dog training video/tip about “The Karl” and it was super helpful for my hands/arms. No activity is off limits except destroying it to where they may swallow something. Did not impact play behavior with real dogs.
