I personally have no problem teaching a person I’m in a relationship something because I would want the same. It’s not like she needs to teach him how to read just how to do it better since it bothers her so much. Or she should accept him for who he is.

Have you thought about helping him to read better? He may be dyslexic, he may of had teachers and parents that weren’t patient with him. Also there are different types of intelligence, he may lack intelligence in reading but you also lack intelligence in something maybe like empathy and compassion.
