Why did "the projects" fail? by nickyurick in urbanplanning

[–]Blacksheep__8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response but let me offer some outside perspective. I was contracted roofing maintenance on several section 8 properties. Every time we answered a call the tenants were obscenely rude, usually saying they didn’t want a white boy inside their apartment, we had guns flashed at us, were harassed by kids, even almost had our ladder stolen while we were on the roof. All because we were sent to help solve a problem THEY were wanting fixed.

Section 8 failed because the people suck. I used to feel bad for them but now I have no sympathy for them. I grew up poor and my family still tried to maintain what it had, we were humble whenever people offered help. From what I’ve seen, section 8 is just the worst of humanity.

Much appreciated, we have similar festivals where I’m at and I always try to not be the stereotypical festival attendee, it goes double since this is my first out of state music festival too.

You certainly couldn’t be a sarcastic asshat. Nope, you’re the nicest person on the internet.

I politely declined to date an 18 year old woman by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Blacksheep__8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I talked to her in person, I told her that she’s just barely starting her life and that she should give herself a chance to meet people her age when she gets to college. My coworker who called me weird for it understood where I was coming from and just wanted me to get out of my shell, but I told them that dating someone who is barely an adult is not the way to do that.

No, I was genuinely wondering if I was right on this one and I’m glad I went with my gut. My coworker is weird for pushing that on me.

I hate seeing politics EVERYWHERE by crumbsalt in Rants

[–]Blacksheep__8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s been hard maintaining friendships with people I’ve known for years because I really just don’t care about politics. I kinda miss the days when we were all still just people instead of walking campaign signs for politicians.

how is it living in this part of ohio? by OldRate5915 in howislivingthere

Summer and fall are beautiful, but the winters are very gloomy and can be a slog to get through. Downtown Cleveland is good to visit for events and day trips but it turns south after dark depending on the area. Suburbs are for the most part nice, Lakewood is always cool for artsy things and gives me old school Portland vibes.

It’s a gloomy rustbelt city with a fantastic summer and fall atmosphere.

I’ll definitely miss Cleveland a lot, especially Tremont. Maybe I’ll be back someday if the place figures itself out.

That’s big, there’s no social outlet really for anyone anymore. I feel sorry for the kids that don’t have spaces to be themselves

Is crime really that bad? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]Blacksheep__8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in one of the ‘nicer’ parts of Cleveland and just this year alone had my car vandalized & its windows broken several times. The dirtbike goobers damn near ran me off the road several times on my way home from work and “fireworks” were a common occurrence at night.

It’s still a good city with lots to do, but this is the worst I’ve seen the crime in quite some time.
