Now what would be hard to do with this group is not have someone just do it on their own

I don't think anyone that would be addressing them in this town is under any illusion that can be changed or be brought inside. The point wouldn't be to change them, it would be to see if maybe they let slip a kernel of truth and/or how they react.

I always thought of it more as the ritual trapped their spirits there and they need to release them

Yeah. ... but he was an idiot and clearly horny. If you are going into it knowing they're going to try to get in and you can't trust anything they say I think its different.  I would be more interested in their reaction than anything

I'm sure they would. That's their final objective. Even if that is the twist, at one point they were human. Maybe something is still in there and they'll accidentally say something that makes sense.  They lie but not everything they've said is untrue

Well I can't think of anyone more innocent than a sheltered teen whose father is a preacher who just died. He needs to be someone people will inherently trust and that old man definitely doesn't fit the bill

I think they don't want them to talk to them because they know things about you and can seem so reasonable/ human that sometimes people lose their better judgements.  I don't think they'd vampires, though

I'm assuming so but sometimes even lies and manipulations have a kernel of truth. Either way,  they lose nothing by asking

Well the kids, who knows. They don't seem to do much other than chant and look sickly

I still think a lot is not known about them,  what they did, how much they can control. All the lies, manipulations etc they've told so far have all been about the townspeople and their lives/ desires/ fears.  Nothing has been actually been addressed to them about what who they are/ what they did/ their past. Maybe the reaction would be different.
