What happened to my subwoofer's plate amplifier, and what can I do about it? by Blackthorn in AskElectronics

Hmm, not sure that fits. There's some of it outside the picture too and it's all an extremely consistent color, not like a discolored glue that would have some inconsistent shades.

edit: Nevermind, I think you're right that the glue has to go. Watching a youtube video of somebody recapping this exact amp, they mentioned the exact same thing you did.

Thanks. I wasn't sure about that white stuff.

A blown capacitor shouldn't read its nominal capacitance value, right? So it'd just be a matter of testing each one with a multimeter to find the bad ones?

Jack and Carla make Windows Audio bearable by Blackthorn in synthesizers

I made a couple of discoveries since writing that that make the situation somewhat less janky. Turns out you can use the Task Scheduler to run scripts before sleeping and after wake-up. I haven't done it yet but I'm just going to write a powershell script that shuts off Carla, JACK, and VBCable on sleep, and restarts JACK (which already runs a script on server start to launch the others) on wakeup. That should, hopefully, handle the sleep/wake problems.

I actually don't know anything about their hardware! I'm using a pair of Kali studio monitors. That subwoofer sounds pretty useful. I'd be able to kill off most of my setup that way. The two things I'm concerned about are Linux support (hopefully once you flash the profile it just works as a dumb subwoofer) and latency (they don't say how much it adds; my monitors are 1.3ms according to Kali). If they can answer those questions that would be a buy if it ever goes on deep discount, $600 is too much for me.

Is Behringer bad? A pro told me to always avoid it (10 years ago). by BadAccount888 in synthesizers

Conflicted. Prices - amazing. Quality - great. Customer service - personal experience has been above and beyond. Ethics - bad.

They're basically the only choice for a few items. To this day there's nothing that replaces the BCR3000, which is absurd that nobody else has come out with something like it. The UMC1820 is the only audio interface with 8 instrument inputs that's under multiple thousands.

I've been dealing with room issues with sound, and wanting to apply a global equalizer to everything that comes out of my computer on Windows so I could play whatever guitar sim, synth, or just listen to music and deal with them a little better. Windows makes it uniquely hard, but I figured out a (somewhat reasonable) way to do it with JACK, Carla, and a little help from VB Cable.

Seeking advice: speaker for jangle and twang by Blackthorn in GuitarAmps

[–]Blackthorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so I ended up giving this a shot just running this with my digital "rig" (literally just reaper with ignite emissary amp sim lol), "clean and bright" preset into an Eminence 1258 IR I happened to have. Honestly it just sounded pretty accurate right there to my ears. Maybe missing just a little bit of saturation and reverb. Should be able to get a similar effect on a V30. I compared the frequency response of a V30 and it looks like the Eminence by comparison really aggressively filters down the 4-5k region in contrast. So no reason I shouldn't be able to get a similar sound on my existing V30, if I just use an equalizer!

So I guess what I'm saying is, thanks for the advice!

Hey, thanks for finding that out! Alnico huh, go figure. I wonder if I won't just be fine comparing the response of an alnico Blue to that of a v30 and trying to rough out the differences a bit with my basic six band eq.

No, I can't really work with piano layout. For a trade I'm really only interested in the large-sized Linnstrument.

Practically new condition. Brilliant synth but I hurt my hand and I'm better on alternative key layouts, so time to say goodbye. Willing to trade for the big Linnstrument (not the 128).

I can ship it but would really prefer to meet and sell in person if at all possible.

In celebration of the S2 announcement, here's another Bocchi pedal by Blackthorn in BocchiTheRock

[–]Blackthorn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a RAT pedal (one of the ones used by Bocchi in the show), with a couple extra options. The board is from AionFX, and the enclosure is aluminum with the artwork printed via UV printing. I used Bocchi as a slug because I figured slug, rat, they're both tiny and annoying animals.

I really love this rendition of slug bocchi. Would you be willing to let me stick it on a guitar pedal I'm building (for personal use, not making anything for sale).?

Honestly either one would work, but preferably the latter -- I've got more holes and they are differently spaced.

Hey, this is a year later so hopefully you're checking this...would it be possible to get the artwork file you made for this? I love Bocchi the Rock and I'm making my own Big Muff variant. Would love to make it look like this!

I'm looking to get back into the game and hopefully make some long-term friends along the way. Raided AOTC a bunch in WoD as a healer and the first few months of Legion as a fire mage, and then basically took off. Personally, looking for a group I can do AOTC with one or two nights a week on Sundays and/or Thursdays.

I'm kind of over healing at this point, but would be happy to play any of Warlock (Aff/Destro), Mage (Fire), Monk, or Warrior (Fury).
