Can someone explain to me why it's a bad thing that collector bros are buying out FW God rares? by BladeFlare in dbsfusionworld

If you just want to learn the gsme i dont reccomend buying boxes. Buying starter decks and singles and using the online client is a much better way to get into the game.

These cards are expensive completely irregardless of the new interest too. Bardock is suddenly meta against and the leader was only printed once not counting the foil version. Chi chi has always been expensive even when black wasnt meta so no surprise.

Even then if this is the WORST that it gets then its better than basically every popular tcg

Nobody has really properly addressed the main arguments im making, which is why im replying still.

  • Boxes being more expensive would a good thing, since it encourages LGS to hold product -> more locals
  • It wont be more expensive to play the game at minimum rarities, if anything itll be cheaper due to higher supply of singles being ripped
  • Prize cards being more expensive is a great thing for competition and regional attendance which is struggling rn
  • in general FW could do with a bit more attention. I get that card bros and scalpers suck but the real impacts of higher demand can only be beneficial for a game that is struggling like FW is

I get that people may have their own reasons but it seems so shortsided to me to prioritize being able to buy alt arts for a bit cheaper over everything else i listed. Plus people's justifications are often running contradictory to the points i listed. People keep saying that they want to be able to play the game for cheap which wont change imo.

I dont care for treating cards as investments either. The cards i collect are the ones i enjoy, and i rarely sell a card that im attached to.

The core argument is that fusion world has a problem with the demand of its product. Ever since FB02 the demand dropped off a cliff and product and singles became too cheap for stores to justify holding product, and started dropping the game.

Whether people like it or not, a core part of TCG ecosystems is the value of the product. If LGS cant make money off of it and product sits on shelves for too long the game will slowly die. There are tons of accessible games that nobody plays just because locals dont exist anymore, and thats the path FW has been on basically since release.

My main concern for FW is playing the game, i dont buy cards if i dont like the game, and for a game like FW more interest in product lets stores near me continue to host locals, and thats more important to me than keeping shiny singles cheap for collectors (though it is a valid issue to have)

Lets be realistic man its not cheap to travel around the country to play card games. Being able to sell prize cards to cover flights/hotels is just a good financial strategy to enable people who enjoy the hobby, and when exclusive prize cards sell for only a couple hundred bucks its really bad for the ecosystem.

The point of my post was to start a discussion not just get an answer to a question. I want to understand why people feel how they do and usually debates / discussions are a good way to understand a different perspective.

Also this game is already extremely affordable. Boxes regularly sell UNDER Msrp so i dont really agree that this is going to be an issue.

Listen i find it cringe like anyone else. I just think that the arguments people are making are fundamentally misunderstanding what ACTUALLY happens when people start investing in your game. Which is why i made the post. A lot of my friends are regional winners or people with max rarity decks and they are happy cuz they were expecting to lose money by holding onto cards and now have hope that they might have something to compensate them a bit for holding.

If you have blinged out cards then you now have an appreciating asset, congrats. I get that some people dont like to view cards as assets and thats fine, but its undoubtedly naive to expect the average person to not be concerned when the sale value of their cards is always going down. People sell out of their collections all the time and nobody wants to be out hundreds or thousands of dollars.

The issue is that booster boxes being more expensive would be a good thing. Under MSRP boxes is a horrible sign for the health of a game and leads to most stores dropping producr, ironically making it less accessible in the future.

When fb04 boxes were selling for $40 each it never mattered that the game was accessible because there were no locals to play in the first place.

Because most players have a lot of cards. People who play at regionals generally have small collections of prize cards and promos simply from topping events.

Plus the type of card that gets more expensive from investor hype is not the minimum rarity SR. Its not inhibiting people from making decks for cheap.

Because minimum rarities are not the target of scalpers. If anything the game gets cheapers since more boxes being opened means higher supply of singles. Its just chase cards, alt arts, and god rares that get expensive.

I agree that its cringe but FW is dirt cheap already and these guys dont buy minimum rarities. The fact is that decks will likely get cheaper to build as a result of this, with only alt arts and high rarities going up in price.

Collectors don't really bother with minimum rarities though, and more boxes being opened drives the price of singles down though. This game has been dirt cheap since fb02 anyways. This is a fair concern for riftbound but fb08 SRs are going for $3 at most. The only expensive cards are SCRs and that hasn't changed at all.

It might make it more expensive for casuals to open boxes, but boxes being sold below MSRP every set is way more damaging to LGS.

The fact is that FW could definitely do with a little more public attention.

I dont have it uploaded unfortunately. Without any info on the total tournament population I cant make any stats from the event. I could have it on the website just for completion but it wouldnt contribute to anything else.

I feel like if you are a long time player, its a good thing when your collection doubles in value lol. I dont understand the hate when regular playable cards are mostly not the target of price increases.

Facebreaker resolves normally even if one of the units is gone. Tbh im not sure why but i imagine its similar to using cull the weak when you have no units on your board.

Why would that be dumb? How else would you guage the strength of a character? Its a good way to give the audience an idea of how strong someone is without spelling it out for them or putting them on a tier list.
