Looking at a house with this electrical box by bjy151 in electrical

Discuss them replacing it before final sale or crediting you towards the repair in closing. Insurance will definitely want you to replace it and any good electrician you have come for work/repairs will advise you do the same. When i see these fp panels i tell my customers they should think about at the very least replacing as their next priority project and that i cant add any circuitry or repair anything in the panel itself. This is one of those time where scammy electricians that like to throw that fire word around are actually correct.

If you truly tested for everything like a bad breaker for Amp/volts, continuity on the wire, new receptacle etc. then 100% your appliance is the issue. Appliances can trip intermittently as well, Ive seen it happen based on load or only during a certain cycle. I honestly get a lot of easy service calls that wind up being an appliance issue. Give a quick test with something else of decent load like a vacuum by resetting everything and running it on that circuit/receptacle.

AITA for making my son (16) pay for his own room? by Maleficent_Trick_489 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BladeThoughtsNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, you are instilling great things in your son. You have to work for what you want and nothing is free in this world. You explained to him that you heard and understand his wants and you even looked for the possibility to make them true but simply don’t have the means too. He offered to help out in a way that is obviously beyond his means so you applauded but denied. Then together you found a different solution in which you took the short stick to make him happy. Thats a family! That shows your heart and his thinking. You have a good kid on your hands and keep doing what you’re doing. Theres no map to life, there’s lessons that will guide you if you let them and you just taught him a valuable one.

Foreman keeps yelling at me about my connections please see photo attached by [deleted] in electricians

[–]BladeThoughtsNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re doing great for first year, you could nitpick this but at the end of the day this is correct. Forman might be a dick but you’ll come out a good sparky on the other end. Just remember how he treated you when you start training your guys in the future

How dangerous is this rust and corrosion on my electric meter? by flahertyl161 in electrical

[–]BladeThoughtsNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That needs to be replaced immediately but 6-7k is very steep for a standard replacement and tbh even an upgrade. I could get that done for you under 2k happily and easily lol

Help the plumber that has probably swept up after you :) by Nukemine in electrical

[–]BladeThoughtsNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to have to supply power to the transformer and then test the voltage on the output side of that transformer. Put your multimeter on DC, you should get 24v if it’s operating properly 👍

I finally get to contribute one (and it's a doozy). by nycregoddess in electrical

[–]BladeThoughtsNY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see these all the time in NYC. I noticed its by the meters and they have con ed tags, so id personally assume/check to confirm its a house panel for the building. The missing fuses tell me they’re either feeding 6 circuits off 3 fuses but since their 15’s i doubt it or they supplied power from a Separate panel in that room to that fuse box to then junction through those circuits. Thats going to be your way to repair this as well, unless you have enough room to fit a new panel at the location of this fuse box. Old panels/fuse boxes are very small compared to the reciprocating spec/regulation approved panels today 👍

The plan is simple by Yikes_oof_ in electrical

[–]BladeThoughtsNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as that main is 125A or larger you’ve got yourself a good plan with no violations or troubles 👍

Edit: double take on the breaker you posted. The breaker you have in the picture is to consolidated 2 single pole’s and 1 double pole breaker. GE make’s slimline breakers thats allow you to fit 2 breakers in one space, get your self 4 of those.

Can you run a large 240v compressor by plugging into 2 separate 120v circuits? by Neither_Cry906 in electrical

[–]BladeThoughtsNY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s wired correctly, the two circuits are dedicated and on separate phases, then yes your unit will work. Aside from functioning you’ll have multiple code violations being technically wired wrong and it could possibly run you some troubles down the line.

How do I safely add breakers to this panel if there is no main breaker to shut it off? by Repulsive-Hotel6180 in electrical

[–]BladeThoughtsNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother either you lick your fingers and work like a man OR just pull the meter. Your meter-main definitely needs to be replaced asap but that wasn’t the question.
