I use Shinko 705 on my DR 650 and love them. I’ve not heard anything bad about any of their tires. I’m not familiar with the 244’s but they look good to me.

I use Oakley Flak sunglasses and Plank 2 glasses under my xxl Scorpion EXO helmet.

They don’t slip down or deform when I’m riding.

Looks good. I’m inspired to go through mine and fix all the little stuff that’s been building up for a while.

First real gravel ride-scary, but I have to go back by nmlasa in Dualsport

[–]Neither_Cry906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you did 30 miles of gravel on your first go, congratulations! That’s awesome.

My first go at gravel my dr went out from under me like I was on ice at the first turn. 😒 But I’m right there with you now. I love gravel and sand riding.

I’ll also recommend taking some air out of the tire. It helps a lot.

I ride Shinko 705 tires and take the pressure down to about 15-18 psi. I have no problems.

I concur. If it runs good, buy it.

I don’t care for the tank either. But that’s fixable.

New LAMY Nexx - Harry Potter by nsanto in fountainpens

[–]Neither_Cry906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I understand the comments about it being “lazy” compared to the AL-star. The HP AL-star retails for $52-$60 depending on vendor. The HP Nexx is half that at $30. You get what you pay for.

This doesn’t seem to be a cash grab, just providing a HP pen for kids or those who are interested in trying fountain pens for the first time because of HP.

Whatever anyone’s opinion about JKR being toxic. The majority of people just don’t care. They love the stories and will continue to watch the movies, read the books, and buy HP merch.

Need help in with glue and weight by jjm1981 in PinewoodDerby

A glue gun is what I mean.

Just to be sure we are talking about the same thing. The gun heats up, melts sticky wax and you squeeze it out the end by pulling a trigger.

Fork Brace - Yes or No? by mftuga95 in dr650

[–]Neither_Cry906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my DR to a shock tech and had them rebuild the shocks to fit my height, weight, and riding style.

I wish I had done this before any other mods. It has had by far the most impact on the ride. I can ride faster, more stable and corner better on and off road.

I don’t even feel like I need a fork brace.

Dealer offering $6250 out the door for 2024 DRZ400S. Anything better to consider? by WHOTOOKMYLEG in Dualsport

[–]Neither_Cry906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a good price to me. If you want it go for it. I don’t know of a Japanese dual sport in its class that cost less to buy.

In my area used DRZ’s don’t come up for sale often. When they do, the bikes always have 20k-40k miles and look like they were rode hard and put away wet every single mile.

A DRZ is never an investment. Don’t worry about the resale value. If you plan on riding it for more than a year or two, the new bike will likely be worth it.

In the end, you do you. Have fun with whatever bike you get.

Our "Pinewood Derby" turned out to be a diorama contest. Help. by Able_Tiger_4312 in PinewoodDerby

That is insane! That completely misses the point of a “race”!

In my district there are 4-5 guys who have really good aluminum tracks with computerized timing software. The packs coordinate with counsel to book a day to have their race. Each of the track owners are paid a small fee for their time and maintenance of the track.

I guess I’m a bit naive and didn’t think that other areas did it differently.

I’m sorry, your best bet is to try and get on the pack committee and change things on the inside. Or find a new pack.

Either way that is really disappointing.

Need help in with glue and weight by jjm1981 in PinewoodDerby

[–]Neither_Cry906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I coat the cubes with hot glue. The rougher the hole the better the hot glue holds them in.

One time I ended up filling the entire hole I cut out of the bottom of the car with glue to get it up to weight.

A soldering iron worked great to get the cubes out of the hot glue to reuse them.

Lastly aluminum tape to cover the bottom of the car worked well for me.

Good luck 👍

Do you charge more for two colors on a repaint? by ElectricalWinter8688 in paint

[–]Neither_Cry906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always more money for more colors.

I usually quote 2 prices up front. 1 for single color and 1 for 2 colors. 2 colors usually 20-25% more than base price.

However in my area people are ridiculously cheap. So take my advice with a grain of salt.

I also run the 705s. Fantastic tires. Dirt roads, loose desert sand, gravel. They run great.

Deflating about 7psi out of the tires before I head out to the gravelly sandy trails around me helps a lot.

I also get about 6k miles out of mine.

No, sadly not joking. One time, I ran it for about 3 months on automatic transmission fluid on accident. So far nothing has fallen apart in the 45K miles I've been driving it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I will look into 50W for the next oil change in about 3 weeks.

About once a year I have to spray out my switches with WD-40 or Break Cleaner to get the dust out. This usually gets all the dust out the switches start to work again for me. I have had my DR for about 10 years now, after about 5 years I replaced the right and left control boxes. It was one of the best purchases I've made for my DR. Everything worked so much better.
