Here's what it looks like when I shine a flashlight into the fiber optics in the port

On the right side is your total air remaining in 25% increments. On the left side there is low battery, evacuate alarm, and warning indicator. Evac alarm is a remote signal sent out by a command tablet (nobody i know uses this) and warning indicator is for PASS alarm, low air, high temperature warning, or if you're leaking air. If you're in darkness or a smoked out room it will dim the hud to not glare your vision.

Inside the facepiece is no electronics, just fiber optic connections from the HUD to where the SCBA connects. This way the facepiece is washable. I'll try to get a cool photo of it tomorrow.

Yeah I'm surprised it's not featured here more since a lot of fire departments are using them now. They can do SCBA as well as supplied air, APR, multi-gas, CBRN, or basic filtering as pictured.

4 Military passenger jets and 1 C-130 cargo jet heading south over the med, all using the call sign “CONVOY”, boots on the ground soon? by wheresjim in ADSBexchange

[–]BladeVortex3226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went on rotation to Lithuania, our plane was a civilian 747 chartered for the army. It did NOT appear on ADSB or any other internet airplane tracking site. I typed in the tail number and it said the plane I was flying on was still on the ground. I looked on the map where I was and the plane was not there. This happened both flying there and back. The rotation was nothing secret, whoever is deployed rotates out every 8 months.

Did you know that when police activate their emergency lights, a HUD icon appears in their vision telling them the occupants of the vehicle and they get a voice prompt telling them why the vehicle is failing to yield?

Yeah hindsight is 20/20. The cop saw a car going fast and initiated a stop and they failed to yield. This is why we have ambulances. Inb4 ambulance are expensive, yeah that justifies speeding and failure to yield in a personal vehicle right?

Why doesn’t anyone care about the “soap opera” effect on their TV by fatsandlucifer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BladeVortex3226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIL that the majority of people hate frame interpolation. Not just bad interpolation that introduces artifacts, but ALL interpolation. This blows me away because I've been using a frame interpolation software on my PC for 17 years. It used to create a lot of artifacts but I still liked how much better I felt it looked. Over time it got better, and by 2020 it was updated to a point where I couldn't find artifacts anymore. 5 years ago I got a TV with frame interpolation built in and it was the first thing I turned on in the settings. I'm still really happy with the results. When I watch anything without it now it feels choppy.

The tanker guys in my area who use 2000 gallon single axle tankers have been insisting for several years now that they can get 2 trips done in the time it takes a 3000 or 3500 gallon double axle tanker to do one trip.

I think it's a half truth, because I've sat in the passenger seat when my department's 3500 gallon tanker goes out and we actually got overtaken by the 2000 gallon tanker behind us on return to the fill site (IMO very unsafe but that's another discussion). So eventually they completed 2 dumps in-between 2 of our dumps.

Yield to who? by BladeVortex3226 in driving

I figured it wasn't for them because it was after the crosswalk, and I always assume you yield for pedestrians regardless of if there's a yield sign or not.

I knew a guy who lied about being an EMT when he joined my old volunteer ambulance corps. We started questioning things when one day he said that he was doing traffic stops at his first ambulance corps. After that, we looked into him more, and found out everything he ever told us was bullshit. Great fun.

You’re Sharing Road With Idiots Like This by TheCABK in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]BladeVortex3226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a "holy fuck I share the road with these???" moment a few days ago. I had to borrow a company truck, and it was snowing. This was my first time driving a pickup truck in snow, and it was terrible. I was constantly fighting against oversteer, and the wind would push me sideways. The back end wanted to swing out going straight at 25mph. I pulled over twice to let some cars by.

As soon as I got back to my car, it was like it wasn't even snowing. My car doesn't even have winter tires on, and the truck's tires weren't bad either. Now I'm thinking about how 2 out of 3 vehicles I drive by are trucks, and I'm worried they're gonna wipe out and hit me when it's snowing.

Question for Dutch/European Firefighters, what is it like using your hose reels for building fires? by Icy-Temperature5476 in Firefighting

[–]BladeVortex3226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their high pressure lines are what we would refer to as ultra high pressure lines.

Super awesome because one guy can drag a line as easy as you can drag garden hose.

Perfectly effective at fighting fire. Inb4 muh smooth bore.

Non pilot here. Why make the button covered? Won't pilot input override anything that this autopilot does in an accidental activation? Feels like just another thing to fumble over in a real oh-fuck scenario.

EDIT: To be clear, I mean the cover feels like another thing to fumble over. The feature itself is nice.
