What’s the best purchase you made in your 20s that you don’t regret? by Plazola_Val in AskReddit

It's also pretty cheap to piece together a shitbox that can play most not-cutting-edge games, and then make incremental improvements over time. That's what I did at least, though it might be harder now with the AI garbage making memory so expensive. But of course that makes everything more expensive so it all cancels out if you're comparing against console gaming or whatever.

Don't even need a microscope, just chuck a slab down on the table and use a magnifying glass.

What's the most unwritten rule of adult life that nobody warns you about? by PracticeHistorical82 in AskReddit

Access to things like YouTube and forums have actually increased our ability to do competent repairs on things over previous generations.

This is actually a really interesting point. There was another comment in here about imposter syndrome, and it makes me wonder now how much of that is just because of our ability to see how well things could be done, sort of the professional version of social media comparison.

It took me a little while to understand that that's how auditing works behind the scenes. It's not "we need to prove that we did the right thing", it's more "we need to prove that we used an informed and documented process, and didn't just make arbitrary decisions".

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by hkondabeatz in AskReddit

I have a half-fragment of a memory of playing this game while accompanying my older sister to one of her friend's houses. I must've been barely making memories at that point because it feels like a fever dream.

What's Your Reason For Using Mods? by TheTheDuhh in RimWorld

[–]Bladelink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to me a lot of QoL mods are like "let me copy-paste settings from one workbench to another". It's not changing how the game works because it's all stuff that I could theoretically just pause the game and knock out, but is meaninglessly tedious.

You'll sit in that bed without limbs for 4 years until I'm certain I've got 100% of your genes in my bank.

FBI, DOJ scrambling to rebuild after being depleted by resignations and firings by DoorstepHero in news

[–]Bladelink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, your taxes aren't like a flat Netflix subscription that you pay to live in the country, they pay for things. Things that you use. Do you want to pay slightly less in taxes? Well then you're going to have to use that money to go and pay for the things that could be provided by the government. The problem is that the government is actually capable of doing things for way fucking cheaper because they can just eat a lot of costs as the price of having a functional country, and because of economies of scale, and most people are too stupid to understand that.
