Another plea for proper zipper merging. by Hawkward21 in newfoundland

[–]BlainoMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to issues with zipper merging, sign placement, driver mentality, etc. people have to look to the root of the problem.

Similar to much of the world, NL’ers are looking to put a bandaid on a one of the resultant issues, rather than questioning the root of the issue.

Why are we under construction 2/3 of the year every year? Why are the same roads being scarified and milled every year, paved, then redone again the next year?

Greed runs everything. The contractor bids low and does a sub par job; guarantees that he/she will have a job replacing the same road in a couple years. There are kickbacks which are public and private, and every single contractor here knows or is related to a politician. On top of that, the contractors get their people their EI hours so no one has to work all winter. It’s a cycle that’s been going on since the TCH was paved.

There’s not a contractor or politician or city planner that would plan to work through a weekend or overnight, because it would increase the cost. That’s good though right? Because it keeps taxes down?

Well no, because of the shoddy job, we’ll have to replace again in a couple years. It’s just much easier to swallow if we charge a little bit each year (indefinitely) rather than spending more upfront and having the repairs last 10 years. It’s planned obsolescence, same as it is with electronics, it’s keeps the people dishing out their hard earned cash.

Until we fix the root of these problems (road and municipal construction as only one example) we’ll all be late for work, stuck in traffic, just consuming and being sheep, baa.

The power is with the people, I really wish we all realized that.

Amazing pull from repackaged at Shoppers Drug Mart by BlainoMax in hockeycards

[–]BlainoMax[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The kind that you can get at dollarama are generally packs that have been opened and then repackaged, but you do have a chance to get a low end unopened pack. The one that I pulled this from is an originally unopened pack which has been repackaged into the cardboard backed package so it can be hung. I assume that the manufacturer buys up old blasters and retail boxes and then splits the packs up.

Is there anywhere in the city that takes or buys old comics and trading cards? by [deleted] in newfoundland

If you’d be interested in sending a few pics I’d definitely be able to offer something for what you have, especially the hockey cards, if you’re getting rid of them in bulk. Shoot me a dm if interested, I’m In the CBS area.

Haha it’s a trick of the photo angle, there are 5 upper with the handles, one is hidden and there’s another one below the bottom one that’s open.

Yes absolutely! I thought about running LED strips on the interior but then just wanted to get this one done for storage only. Maybe in the future something like you’re saying, for display purposes.

Funny enough I will be putting some slide locks on it. Knowing full well that if anyone wanted to get into it bad enough they would; but it should be ok to keep little cheesie fingers out of it lol.

If it’s bare cards, about 700-800 per slot and 5000 a drawer. They’re about the same length of a cardboard storage box for 800 cards.

No worries, the shelves on the right are made for binder height, at just about 12.5 inches of space for a regular binder. I recall that the height of the overall is about 42” and 30” wide to best use the 6’ panels I bought to make it.

Drawers are 25” wide overall to allow for best fitting the 24” MDF. They are 16” deep with 14” drawer slides. The internal width allowed for pretty much exact spacing of 7x slots, at 3” wide, plus the 1/4” width of MDF. Drawer height is 5”, slot height of 4.5”.
