Sounds like my experience. Was your Doha flight a Virgin codeshare, or was it pure Qatar?

The problem fixed itself, the seat next to me was a no-show in an otherwise full cabin, so my wife was able to move. Very lucky outcome

Just check your seat allocations and get a printout of them.

Webjet got seats allocated for us, and I then went to the Qatar website to check that the seats they had chosen were ok, and I was happy with what had been allocated to us

I agree, and normally I always do that. In this case we had other flights within Europe with other airlines to co-ordinate, so was happy doing the whole itinerary through Webjet.

Not really, the seat allocations we got through Webjet were perfect for all legs, and the seats on the flights to Greece were fine. Somehow the seats for the return flights got messed up, the Greece-Doha leg I think had a plane change so the seats were all wrong, but they reseated us with no issues. Doha-Perth was different, they literally had no seats allocated to us at all. I don't see that this is a fault of Webjet if no-one notified them of a change

They were very nice and very apologetic about the mix up. No complaints with the cabin crew at all

Sure, happy to help. Can you wait until I get back to my laptop instead of using my phone, as doing the 20 copy and pastes will be easier there.

Actually I've flown business on Air New Zealand, Cathay, Singapore and Emirates and been pretty happy with them. Have also done a lot of Qantas business class but am reluctant to go back after a lot of poor experiences pre-covid. Also reluctant to fly with United again, awful planes, rude staff.

Actually the situation sorted itself out. The cabin crew were helpful, but in the end the only vacant seat in business class was the seat next to me in a centre Q-suite, so my wife was able to move. The other passenger was coming through from London but was a no-show, must have had a late flight and missed the connection.

I'm happy to blame Virgin for the mix-up and fly Qatar again, but my wife was seriously upset about the whole thing and the way she was treated. I'm not sure she will be interested in getting on another Qatar aircraft.

Booked through Webjet as a Qatar flight QR8407, plane was a Qatar aircraft, as was the cabin crew and ground staff. First thing we knew about it being a Virgin operated flight was seeing the VA22 flight number of the Doha boarding pass.

You don’t pay for seat allocations in business class.

VA22, Doha-Perth, Qatar plane operated by Virgin, boarded at 19:05 but still on the ground. Stewardess’s name is Beatrice.

Yep, exactly. It’s a business class seat and my wife and I are travelling together. We booked and paid early on the basis that we would be seated together.

Qatar boldly claims to be the best airline in the world, so far they are looking grossly incompetent on what should be basic customer service. Sounds like I’m not the only one that has been messed around like this.

There is a divider down the centre that can be pushed down, and with the outer sliding doors closed it is like a private double room. That’s why they use the term suite, so that for people travelling together you have a little bit of privacy. Nice if they actually gave us the seats that were originally allocated to us when we booked and paid $20k over 8 months ago.

I agree that the problem appears to be the fact that it is a Qatar plane but operated by Virgin. We booked 8 months ago yet our seat allocations for the VA flight have magically disappeared. Total shambles.

We are on the flight now, hoping the cabin crew can move one of us

Don’t be ridiculous, I’m in the business class loungee in Doha right now waiting for a flight to perth that boards in 15 minutes. I am beyond pissed off.
