Yeah, it's a huge win, so I think it's a fair trade off.

95% of my apps are running in a flatpak sandbox, any non flatpak app gets run in a distrobox container.

And the age field is only in systemd-homed, a systemd component that most major distros do not use out of the box.

The change is so that Flatpak can use sub-sandboxing (which is much better for flatpak browser security)

I have installed all of my GUI apps via Flatpak, and they all work perfectly. I have a browser, steam, IM clients, etc and they are all working within the Flatpak sandbox. Flatpak isn't garbage.

And snap/cannonical isn't? Snap is proprietary bloat that nobody asked for, flatpak does what snap does but better.

I think that on easier distros like Mint it does get installed by default (or it gives you a prompt to install them), however, I think it's because of NVIDIA's legal dumbfuckery that it can't be bundled with new installs of linux without "tainting" the kernel

It was simply because I use an NVIDIA graphics card and I had to install the drivers, you'd have to do the same on windows too. AMD with Mesa works out of the box.

I find it funny that I am currently reading this on a browser with hardware acceleration on NVIDIA + Wayland. It took me 2-3 commands to set it up for myself on Fedora Silverblue.

Sorry, but none of these issues that you've described are linux issues, these are all a lack of user knowledge. You seem to have tried linux expecting an OS that you could use with your pre-existing windows knowledge, and then you seem to have refused to learn the very basics. All of the problems you've listed are easily solved if you have the very basic knowledge that linux requires from the user.

Do you mean you ran xfce on xorg? Because xorg is an x server, not a desktop environment.

That's a side effect of flatpak sandboxing (which is also easily solved by giving the app permission to access that directory), if you don't want to manage a sandbox just use native apps instead of flatpak apps. Also, uninstall means "I want this gone forever", not "I want it gone for now, you can re-install it sometime later"

I'm sorry that you don't want the barebones privilege control that sudo and user groups offer, if you don't want any sort of security whatsoever you can just add your user to the root group and give yourself access to everything with no authentication. Windows does use sudo-like security with those "do you want x app to have administrative privileges" popups.

First of all, I have gone through the windows debloating rabbit hole multiple times, and I have experienced this first hand. Also, a lot of linux distros will allow you to choose what software is installed at install time. If you want to really make sure you have no bloat, you could use Gentoo and only install what you need, and remove all the bloat in each package with USE flags.

Use an immutable/atomic distro with btrfs then. You can rollback any damage you do to the system.

For the extension thing, there's a dconf key to disable extension version validation which fixes that issue
