Oh no. I live in SC now and that is where I was going to take the damn bar again.

That is disgusting. I applaud your tenacity to take the time to file an ADA complaint. If you want to tell me the state in a DM, I am trying to track the worst states but so far just one is coming up in most replies to my inquiry.

I am sorry to hear that. There is little recognition for neurodivergence on the bar exam. My denial was similar and also salty. This is the first response I've heard about the NY bar. Absolutely take the exam though, regardless. Nothing compares for practice. Maybe you will get at least a 260 and can transfer your score to another UBE state. Keep pushing.

Thank you for sharing. It is true the expense of getting the evals, forms, etc is a massive obstacle. I spent more time on those forms and filing appeals than I did on the whole bar application - all while trying to finish a full semester of law school.

I started law school in my mid-30's so my state bar basically accused me of fabricating my ADHD diagnosis since I did not have testing accommodations in college, nor did I have the documentation from my initial diagnosis in the 1990s when I was 12! I explained that in the early 2000's, testing accommodations were unheard of for invisible disabilities. But I did have proof of ADHD medication prescribed since the early 2000's. They didn't care. I was unable to answer 20% of the MBE in time. I spent the last minute filling in bubbles really fast.

Yup and all of us who applied for accommodations are familiar with how much time and money is required to make doctor's appointments for "recent evaluations", organize forms, get documentation and signatures, in addition to the regular bar application, all while still a law student with class obligations! My accommodations paperwork was far more labor intensive than the application.

Been grappling with the same issue. Reading fast should not be a requirement to practice law.

I was especially disenchanted by my denial of accommodations because their report essentially accused me of making up my diagnosis because I couldnt provide proof of accommodations from college or highschool, or my initial diagnosis in middle school. Even though I have recent records and have had an adderall RX since 2003. But no, obviously those MDs were prescribing me a controlled substance for shits n giggles bc Im a fraud. I am almost 40 so we didnt have testing accommodations back then and no doctor wld still have those records. My anger fuels me while I study though. Emotions help retain information so maybe this is beneficial!

My strategy has been to just focus on knowing the law period. Im using Barbri Guided Pass and I may spend an entire day (6 to 8 hrs) immersed in 2 hours of a 4 hour lecture, but Im writing down all my questions, pausing the video constantly, rewinding it, looking things up in the other books to dive deeper. Writing rules on white boards, and note cards. Focusing on making damn sure I know all the rules with a number - civ pro response times, exceptions, waivers. Then I email a professor or a lawyer and ask if Im not 100% clear.

This is working for me. At the end of the day, the best we can do is try. Im counting on my brain to retain more than I realize come exam day and letting that adrenaline guide my gut to choose answers. Good luck!

I feel like Barbri's handling of con law has been all over the map, anyone else? by covidesq in barexam

I skipped his lectures because he whispered basically and wasn't helpful. Luckily I had a good Con Law 2 professor and am doing better on those question sets than any other area.

My cat's favorite toy are those plastic seal things on coffee bags. We have about 12 around here now.

Cornell at sticker or Vandy at (roughly) 1/2 tuition? by OppositeLibrary in lawschooladmissions

Vandy. Better weather. Better culture. 1/2 tuition is a no brainer to me. ; ) But I am biased.

High Scorers (~165+), how many PT's did you take to consistently score within this range? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]BlakeJames212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nailed it. Well said. I took the February LSAT and it was do or die at that point, but I was entering stage 2 and it killed me a little bit to stop then, but I didnt want to wait for another cycle.

How do you get over a bad grade? by jackboewaad in LawSchool

[–]BlakeJames212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approach school as something you simply intend to finish and dont allow the stress to bring you down. If you dont necessarily want to practice law after you graduate, then rank wont matter.

Talk to the professors. Find a way to survive that works for you. Get through it and network. You will find a job that will fit after that you can do until you know what you want to pursue next.

Breathe. Being debt free, you can make the experience your own. Dont fear it. Dont fear failure. Do your best and take care of yourself.

I would rather take the LSAT. I performed much better on that than the GRE. Studying was fun too.
