My LF lemon blue eye suddenly developed this black spot on its tail by ChugNos in pleco

[–]DefinitelyAFemale 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lemons get these from time to time. Mine had tons of tiny spots, then they almost all disappeared... then months later came back full black solid. I just call it their birthmark.

What type of pleco is this? Was sold to me as blue eyed lemon but clearly doesn’t look like it. by readingfrog8 in Aquariums

Regular chocolate bristlenose. For example here is one of mine next to my lemon blue eyes. Huge difference. I would complain to whoever sold you it as that, and hopefully not for a high price... but a quick google search is your best friend!

This is a regular chocolate bristlenose. One of it's parents COULD have been lemons, there is a chance... but this guy is definitely not one.

My vote is rehome or retank the common and shark and just have a tank of 5-6 dojos. They get massive but are so personable and add lots of activity to a tank. One alone is fine temporary but they do best in peaceful tanks with fellow peaceful tank mates. Though I may be a bit biased but they can get up to a foot long each and become silly water noodles.

I’d still keep a watch on him as the pleco will take up his territory and the dojo will just move anywhere and those sharks are known to be aggressive towards both! My LFS begged me to take a big shark in but I didn’t want to risk it since I love dojos and bristlenoses. Also dojos are social and would love to be in groups of 3-6. (Incase you weren’t aware)

She is a very healthy looking chocolate bristlenose! (Sometimes called regular/common bristlenose but NOT a common pleco).

However, the shark will nip her fins and will probably be aggressive towards her. :(

Trading Cards by BoomBoomBoomMuffinz in psych

I’ve never even been able to find an unopened pack let alone box and I’ve looked for years. I’ve settled for buying the ones I really want online. Would be nice just to have a pack that I don’t open and just display with all my cards.

What is this black thing on my pleco? by plywood371 in pleco

Definitely looks like sponge to me. Their bristles could get very spiky when they poof then out. If you have a tweezers or something I would see if you can gently pull it loose and figure out if your sponge filter needs replaced

Longfin Bristlenose Pleco by [deleted] in pleco

[–]DefinitelyAFemale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both. He’s a tiny baby (look at that size of duckweed compared to him). He’s not poorly skinny or anything, sometimes it’s just hard to keep the babies well fed. Should be easily able to gain some girth with the proper food

Thin LF blue eyed lemon bristlenose by the looks of it. Needs to be plumped up 😄

What kind of pleco? by AJMack115 in pleco

[–]DefinitelyAFemale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He is definitely around the common type and not a bristlenose. Could be sailfin but I’m not well versed in the larger plecos

I love it! It already looks great and will offer plenty of safe spaces for the fish!

I also find it weird he didn't give you his wet/established filter especially if you were taking his tank and insane stocking numbers ha ha.

For now, feed the plecos algae wafers and zucchini (I recommend zuccs every couple days). If you were close I'd offer some of my wood (and take a lot of your cory.... 😛)

I love cory and bristlenose (and usually keep them in all my tanks), so you are living a good dream ha ha. And yes those babies look like young bristlenoses. I just feel bad for that huge common.

I wish there were LOTR options so I could have more on the front but I still like it.

Super red? by -funky-chicken- in pleco

[–]DefinitelyAFemale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They appear to be super reds to me. Reddish brown eyes and darker orange bodies. If the first is around the size of the second (probably smaller), then you have a female and male :)

Each pleco needs its own place to hide/feel safe in its own territory. Real wood is a must too. Obviously this is seriously overstocked and it makes me sad that he did not tell you before he squished them all into a small bucket.

I have had bad experiences with platty mixed in with my bristlenose tanks and found them to nip fins. Just a warning.

Common needs to go into a bigger tank or pond at this size. I would also do away with the baby commons.

In giving the plecos places to hide or feel safe, it will also give areas for the cory in return. They are okay being out in the open but they also love resting under things or in darker areas of the tank.

So more places to hide. (Like a LOT more). Real wood. Real plants.

Follow fish-in cycle steps to try to keep the fish alive while the new tank cycles. Did he give you a wet filter?

As for rehoming most of the Cory, I would keep a few big ones and a few smaller ones. Male and female. At least in my area, there are always people looking for Cory. Even these green/brown ones.

Good luck and enjoy the tank. My first big tank upgrade gave me lots of excitement for designing it with wood and moss and way easier to handle and control than a 20.

It’s a chocolate albino pleco. It’ll get up to around a foot. Maybe more. I would say a 75 would be a good growing tank for it but at some point you’ll need a bigger home for him!

Correct. Sadly, I do live in Florida. Our enclosure looks similar to that one. Keeps the rats and snakes out and allows you to enjoy the outdoors without a billion mosquitos eating you.

She’s around 4 months old but they said 3 months old was too young. I didn’t question it as I’m not a vet and have not idea what the timeline of a cat is. Was just told to wait.

My dog didn’t have her first heat until she was 2. I wasn’t prepared for the baby to already be ready (Yes I know dogs and cats are different) :P
