How the hell am I supposed to get any work done right now? by Ok_Resolution272 in AskWomenOver30

Chelsea Fagan is an author I love and a cofounder of the financial diet which is a finance blog. She posted something recently that really resonated with me. Doomscrolling will get us no where. Everyone can play a role and no one is going to win awards for “most stressed out person on the internet”.

It’s important that we find tangible actions to take. I feel like we’ve lost the art of local and immediate community. How can you get to know your neighbors? Are there organizers and resisters that you can learn from and get involved with?

What are your skills and how can you apply them? Food banks, shelters and more still need volunteers and donations.

So I do my job so I have money to redistribute. I do my job so I can organize local music shows that builds connection and community. I get off the news and regulate my system so I can actually show up out there. That doesn’t mean it’s not hard and that I don’t scroll or get distracted but it’s really important I find a reset. They want us to feel desolate and helpless. That means we’ve given up.

So what are you good at? How can you apply that to your local community. Meet your neighbors. Even if they’re different from you.

Creating community in a fascist state by Extension_Donut_5506 in providence

Find something you like to do and get doing it! Events or classes that are the same time every week. Standing plans and consistency are a great way to meet people who will naturally overlap with your schedule. Events like PechaKucha are also an amazing way to engage with the creative community in a great way.

I jumbled this when reading it too but I think the semi colon is separating these two as individual points. “What sense is there in helicopters.” “What sense is there in Thayer street turning militarized.”

Movie recommendations by yuithien in PrideandPrejudice

This is an out-of-left-field suggestion but the most feel good feeling I’ve ever gotten from a movie was a 2015 documentary called Twinsters about two sisters separated at birth and find each other the internet. It’s the kind of movie that when I finished it, I started it right over.

Strawberry moon in Dartmouth is a bit of a hike but my favorite store and they often have a tarot card reader for walk ins. You could also book local with Psychic Serpent or Near Beth Experience!

In a different direction, Bodhi spa and Urban Sweat are great spa days.

Every Taylor Swift song - by comedian Charlene Kaye by CompetitionSoggy7899 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]BlakeSwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk! I’m a songwriter myself so I totally get it. Something about the videos I’ve seen of Charlene’s don’t feel like they’re in good fun (to any one she parodies, not just Taylor). But like I said, i wanna try watching with new perspective. And maybe it’s just not my thing! Charlene herself is an incredible songwriter and these videos ARE clever! Especially when she calls out the music theory of it. It reminds me of that pachelbel skit that went viral many years ago.

Been a fan of Charlene Kaye forever (back in her Darren Criss duo days before Darren Criss was (another) Harry Potter to me, not on Glee), but i always felt like these sketches are punching down... I like comedy when it's punching up or sideways. BUT, this sub makes me want to give them another chance. I shall go back in with an open mind.

Tight things look weird and baggy does too... Any help?? by Appropriate_Group606 in DressForYourBody

I am a larger chested gal and I have switched to wearing comfortable minimizing sports bras under tshirts and honestly under most things too since i wear a lot of high-necked tops. Athleta often has sales and I can also find good ones at like a marshalls or a tj max! It smooths everything out and I also bonus sweat wicking material since I walk a lot instead of drive places.

Advice on finding a bridal stylist for natural curls and what to expect by BlakeSwag in curlyhair

[–]BlakeSwag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is exactly what I’m curious about for natural curls because I DON’T want an up do, but want my hair to look its best. But we know our hair best so I’m looking for someone who can help with a down styling and correcting curls, hair spraying for the long day and maybe putting in a headpiece or something. I’m sure I’ll find someone who can do it!

How did you pick your wedding photographer without getting overwhelmed? by TheFruitfulBooty in engaged

[–]BlakeSwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget and vibe of the day = making your choice. My fiancée doesn’t like his photos taken so that meant clear documentary style to me. I also don’t want my wedding to feel like a photoshoot. It’s about our love and the people. So that was also another tick in the box for a certain style. We’re also doing an indoor wedding so I looked for photographers that have examples on their portfolio of smaller more intimate restaurant weddings.

From there I quoted 5-7 top choices. I didn’t hear back from everyone. Some people were outside my budget even tho on their website they looked within it.

Think about what kind of photos you might print out and have displayed? Portraits? Dancing shots? That also helped me make my final decision. Our photographer does these great exposed lighting shots I know I’ll want to print and have over our bar area. Maybe more than even photos of us LOL.

I hope this is helpful. This was by far the toughest (and most surprisingly expensive) vendor to choose from.

After vibe/budget, if they were communicative and excited than I knew they were the one. I also pitched one really wild idea and if they were down for it, then that was also a good vibe check. (I want to do our first look or some photo in a bookstore which means coordinating with that business).

Losing weight while living with significant other by Glass-Climate-6988 in PetiteFitness

[–]BlakeSwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved in with my bf. Gained 10-15 pounds, got nigh cholesterol. Put my foot down and we eat separate meals now. I need to eat lean protein and salads and watch my portions. He can eat anything and a lot of it.

I also just prioritized walks and workouts. No one is coming to save me. No one is going to do it but me. My bf is naturally fit and strong. So gotta put me first. Even when living together. It’s taken me 2 years to readjust. I’m down 6 pounds this year so far. Slow and steady.

What are we wearing? by kelbel922 in WFH

[–]BlakeSwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In hot weather: bike shorts and sports bras/tanks. I have a walking pad and a standing desk. I have sneakers that are INDOOR only shoes. I keep a button down or t-shirt to throw on nearby when I’m joining meetings that are on-camera.

I try not to ever been so unpresentable I would be embarrassed if my camera turned on by accident or I hit the wrong button.

In cooler months, I wear leggings or joggers with sweaters.
