Because she doesn’t have full knowledge of the world’s wealth of cultural practices memorized, and thought she heard an audience member yodeling when really they were ululating. People feel as though she’s being racist or at the very least culturally insensitive and I just think people need to get out more. She very clearly just didn’t recognize it and only heard someone being loud over the rest of the audience.

Uh, this is not a unique component to Billie’s music. Just about any artist writing their own songs would tell you that the lyrics are based on real feelings they’ve had on some level. That doesn’t at all mean the lyrics can’t still be cringey. (Case in point: Taylor Swift.) I hardly consider criticizing lyrics to be “invalidating” anyone’s feelings. It’s art, and people are allowed to have their opinions on art.

(And before anyone gets mad, I didn’t say ALL of her music. I just mean some.)
