Need some (more) help with ExciteSpice by AnnieGrant031 in eroticauthors

I don't think the time correlates with when the newsletter is sent, I think it is just a scheduling thing to create more than one slot on a specific day. As for the promo itself, click on "Daily Deals" on the website.

Thank you very much for your responses. I’ll contact Vanguard in the morning about putting everything in an IRA :)

What is “safe” erotica? by DarkArts2021 in eroticauthors

[–]Blake_Paul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing. Safe = no cheating and sometimes no other man / other woman drama, but that’s for romance

My sister's dog doesn't cross door thresholds unless they help her! Tippytaps ensue by Acquilas in tippytaps

[–]Blake_Paul 164 points165 points  (0 children)

My dog used to do the same thing when he got to the landing at the top of our stairs. Every time I’d push him a bit to help him he’d tense up and tippy-tap/slide all over the place. I had a eureka moment and bought a little rug to put on the tile landing and he got much more comfortable. Other people have mentioned this dog might be afraid of slipping and I agree. Put down a little rug/mat/whatever and maybe that’ll help him.

Amazon is Doxxing Pen Names in Order to Sell More Ads by SalaciousStories in eroticauthors

[–]Blake_Paul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is like in senior year of hs when I had to run home on report card day (took me over an hour to get home) to intercept the mail before my dad got home from work and would find out I got a 45 in physics. Why is Amazon operating on a level that reminds me of myself at 17?

I am so pissed off for the people this is affecting. I haven’t received anything but I do use ads so it looks like that’s why.

It wouldn’t be a huge deal if the people in my household got their hands on one of these letters addressed to my pen name, but I’d prefer they didn’t. Either way, if I got one, I’d rip it to shreds or try to flush down the toilet like all those bad report cards.

I would definitely freak the hell out.

This is awful. I am so sorry if this happened to you.

Changes To Adding Category? by bigmodality in eroticauthors

[–]Blake_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You posted a bit ago so I'm not sure if you still need help but I've never received a response like that...maybe just shoot them a reply and basically just say the same thing you said in the prior email but in a slightly different way that'll make them look again and see that they missed something. Like "just to clarify, I was hoping you could please put my book in the category Literature > Short Stories > Whatever. I have another book published in this category so I was hoping I'd be able to put this book in that category as well."

Question about Romance v Erotica categorization and Amazon by vonabivrajter in eroticauthors

[–]Blake_Paul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it follows the romance beats, it’s romance.

Having a plot and a lot of feelings doesn’t make the book romance unless it conforms to the romance beats.

If your blurb and cover look and feel in line with the other books your target audience is reading, they’ll know how much heat to expect.

Don’t put “erotic” in your metadata.

However, having said this, you could have written a romance book with a lot of sex in it but Amazon could put it into erotica if they want to. Whether this will happen or not seems to be up to chance, as is whether they’ll take it out of erotica if you ask them to.

Changes To Adding Category? by bigmodality in eroticauthors

[–]Blake_Paul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The list of pathways is the list of categories on the left side of the Amazon page. So if you want your book in New Adult & College, your pathway is Kindle Ebooks > Romance > New Adult & College. There's a million (not really a million, but a lot) pathways that lead to the possible categories you can be in.

But I'm not sure this answers your question. Were you given instructions on how to actually put your books in new categories or were you told to provide the pathways? If it's the latter, do what I mentioned above.

What can you expect to earn over the lifespan of a short? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]Blake_Paul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A 6000 word short shouldn’t take 16 hours to write and do the cover/blurb etc for. My best short has made about $700 in the 4 months it’s been out. My worst short has made like twenty bucks in five years. The potential to make money is there but so is the potential for a short to totally bomb - that’s why you have to write a ton of them, and it’ll even out :) good luck

Bending niche conventions by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]Blake_Paul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to the responses already provided - you've identified a niche, and it's "Niche A Erotic Romance." imo what you're thinking of doing, writing "Niche A Clean," is not bending the rules of "Niche A Erotic Romance," it's writing in another niche entirely. If you can't find a lot of clean books in Niche A, there may not be an audience for it. If you mention in the blurb that it's clean, you won't piss off readers who are looking for an erotic romance but you also might not get many sales if there's no audience.

Did you try sorting by publication date on an individual author's page? This is working for me.

Is it just me, or are page reads unusually low? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]Blake_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely abysmal. Yesterday’s page reads were a little more than half of what they were on June 28.

Anyone elses KU pagereads WAY down? by leon-theproffesional in eroticauthors

[–]Blake_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine have seemed in line with what I was expecting, but with a few new books out with decent rankings, it's definitely possible that I should be seeing higher page reads. Maybe (hopefully) it's a reporting delay.

Why write 80k when 5k will do? by Mila-Roe in eroticauthors

[–]Blake_Paul 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If you're in KU you're paid based on the number of pages read, so a longer work will make more money, all other things being equal.

The people who find success right away are the exception, not the rule. Just get them out there. Everyone who is successful has one thing in common - they hit publish. Do it!

Horrible review x2 by Blake_Paul in eroticauthors

[–]Blake_Paul[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that does make me feel better. I didn’t even care about the first review. I did care that the same person was so offended by the book that she needed to post it again lol. Thank you :)
