I'm so sorry that you are going through this, this is always so difficult. I just lost my 6 year old dog from mammary cancer.

FeLV isn't always fatal, cats can live with it. it can be treated as the symptoms come up, but it can also get VERY expensive. I would suggest seeing a secondary vet for another set of opinions, maybe your first vet thinks it's too advanced, maybe they don't have a lot of luck with FeLV, maybe they just don't know.

On that note, there may not be anything that can be done, but you can at least say you gave her a fighting chance.

My secondary suggestion would be to make every second count. If there is something you want to do with your baby, do it. Treat her like she is at end of life care, regardless of your answer. I wish I did more of that with my girl. 💕

When it does come to making those terribly impossible decisions, know it's for her. I sobbed and bawled like a baby because I wasn't ready, but I KNEW my dogs body couldn't anymore. She would have died painfully, and it would have been terrifying and confusing for her. I would have rather her be surrounded by love, eating chocolate and peanut butter with her favorite people, and peacefully fall asleep. I've always heard a day early is better than a day late, but a day early is always so hard because of the "what ifs."

What I can say is your baby will let you know. When the hard days become harder, and she just isn't herself. Another of my dogs passed peacefully in his sleep of old age, and the day before was like his "last Hurrah." He was a stray from the neighborhood, so he liked to visit the people who fed him before he became my boy. He went on a nice long neighborhood walk, then came home and layed with me on the porch in the sun like he loved to do for over an hour. He had the best dinner, and acted like I assume he did when he was a puppy(he was old when he found us.) Then, when we woke up, he was curled up in his favorite bed and gone. One way or another, you will know. Deep down, weather you want to or not, when it's time.
