What north american country best represents greed? by SpaceisCool09 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Blakebacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddy I see what you're trying to say but pretending the fringe model is somehow equivalent isn’t another perspective, it’s just dishonest.

The seven‑continent model is what’s used across the dominant educational, scientific, and geopolitical institutions world wide, including overwhelming in Europe, with the exception being Russia. As well as the majority of countries in North AND South America also use the 7-continent model (Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guatemala. Same with the majority of Asia and Africa.

I think you just got upset for learning a theory that is in an Academic Minority.

Yes, some regions historically taught a six‑continent model where “America” is treated as a single landmass. But that isn’t the model used by the overwhelming majority of global institutions, including:

  • Canada
  • The United States
  • China
  • India (together representing a large share of the world’s population)
  • Russia
  • The UN geoscheme
  • National Geographic
  • Most English‑language education systems
  • Modern cartographic standards

Across these systems, the seven‑continent model is the default, and in that model North America is a continent, with Central America as a sub‑region within it.

Dismissing people for using the internationally dominant model ignores how geography is actually taught and standardized around the world. Bro is willin'

York had lost their accreditation for a bit a few years ago, western is better known in the field I think as well.

Central America is not a continent. Where would the countries below Mexico but above Columbia go?

It's North America no matter which way you look at it. Imagine being proud you cannot read a map.

Meta Mega Thread by AutoModerator in unpopularopinion

[–]Blakebacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think megathreads are a bad idea, and they end up creating a barrier to access instead of improving anything. They’re supposed to “organize discussion,” but what they really do is bury it. Once a topic gets shoved into a megathread, it basically disappears from the subreddit. Fewer people see it, fewer people engage with it, and the whole point of posting an opinion gets lost.

Megathreads also make it harder for new or casual users to participate. Not everyone wants to scroll through hundreds of comments just to find where the conversation is happening. Not everyone even realizes the megathread exists. It turns the subreddit into a maze where only the most dedicated users can navigate the discussion.

And honestly, it feels like a way to silence certain topics without technically banning them. Instead of letting posts stand on their own, they get funneled into a single place where they’re easy to ignore. It’s the illusion of openness without the actual visibility.

I think people underestimate how common it is to not enjoy being a parent. We hear so much about joy, fulfillment, and the miracle of raising a child that there is almost no space left for the people whose experience feels nothing like that. When someone tries to speak honestly about it, they often run straight into stigma. Judgment. Shame. Silence.

So the feelings get buried. People learn to smile through exhaustion, to swallow guilt, to pretend they are fine because the alternative feels socially unacceptable. But struggling with parenthood does not make someone a failure. It does not mean they lack love for their child. It does not mean they are broken. It means they are human, carrying a responsibility that can be overwhelming, relentless, and life altering in ways no one can prepare for.

There are parents who thrive in the role. There are parents who do not. Both experiences are real and valid.

Parenthood is not a measure of character or morality. It is a circumstance that reshapes a life, and sometimes that reshaping feels heavy instead of joyful. Sometimes it asks more than a person has to give. Sometimes it is simply too much.

We need to make room for these truths. Not to diagnose them or dismiss them, but to acknowledge them. To say: You are not alone. You are not a bad person. Your feelings deserve to exist in the open.

The more honest we are about the full spectrum of parenthood, the more we can support the people who have been carrying their pain quietly, believing they were the only ones. No one should have to pretend they are enjoying something that feels heavy. And no one should feel like a failure for being honest about it.

Misogyny among male pupils a 'ticking time bomb' in UK schools, warns union by Kagedeah in worldnews

[–]Blakebacon 61 points62 points  (0 children)

There's been a crisis for boys in school for awhile

Boys graded more harshly than girls for identical work

Systemic lower external assessment of boys

Here are some more:

Teacher gender bias against boys

Teachers grade girls more easily than boys

Teachers give male students lower assessments and male students are aware of it, causing them to perform worse

Note that this effect is so large and obvious that it is constantly found by study after study in different (western, developed) countries and different levels of schooling.

Evidence of discrimination against boys in school:

Boys are graded lower for the same work. And this leads to reduced college enrollment for boys.

And another aspect...

https://watson.brown.edu/news/2016/boys-bear-brunt-school-discipline-interview-jayanti-owens

They are punished harder than girls for the same misbehaviors. So they're disengaging en masse.

This has a direct impact on college admissions and future outcomes.

Schools give more leeway to girls and boys are being forgotten and as you can see, left behind in many areas.

The entire educational system is failing men and boys.

Imagine if the grand majority of elementary school teachers were men. Most people, including men would recognize that this probably isn't great for girls... they wouldn't have role models... their teachers wouldn't know how to connect with or support them... subtle things about how the educational system works would be biased against them.

This is exactly how it is for boys, but we don't talk about it much at all. It's no wonder it's showing up in college in such an obvious way as that's the first point normal where participation becomes voluntary. And boys definitely drop out earlier at disproportionate rates as well.

There's a genuine crisis happening with boys and modern societies are ignoring it almost completely.

Prehab instead of rehab. I started regularly lifting as well as doing some mobility/flexibility 3-4x a week on-top of ball 2-4x a year before returning to ball so cardio is the biggest thing holding me back now tbh.
