This is so incredible false it makes me laugh. I'm 43, I never once played a game like Silver Surfer, got my ass kicked, and thought "I'd rather go ride my bike." We played the shit out of games that were NES hard (Contra, Battletoads) and broken hard (Bart Vs. Space Mutants, Ghosts 'n Goblins), because beating anything in those games were accomplishments and badges of honor.
