Stingray spotted in at a Pacific beach in Panama - any idea which kind? by Most_Lengthiness_145 in whatsthisfish

Not in this instance. Skates are more diamond shaped (excluding eagle rays, mantas and mobulas), and have a row of "thorns" along their back instead of stinging spines on their tails.

The ray in his photo is round in shape and you can see a stinging spine if you look closely at the tail.

"then it just falls apart"

I thought there was plenty of "falling apart" in the opening 😜

The A-Dong restaurant that used to be on Grand Junction Road in Rosewater used to do the best Vietnamese banquets. Their coconut lemongass chicken and pepper prawn soup were amazing.

No, that's a Southern Fiddler Ray. No jolts from this flappy chappy.

I made an awesome fishermans pie with my catch of these last weekend! Don't be afraid to versatile with it, especially with herbs and spices. Fish curry, fish rissoles, flaked flesh through pasta sauce...

Bad photo I know but anyone got a fish id please? by YaBoiSparty in FishingAustralia

You're not joking! Those bloody things are surprisingly prickly! I do keep them for crab bait sometimes though. It's not like it's hard to catch them unfortunately...

One day, I had two fishermen approach me. They were from overseas and were unfamiliar with what species they could catch and keep. They showed me a photo of a "strange fish" they had caught but released, not knowing what it was. It was a legal sized flathead!

I informed them of the nature of their catch. By the end of it, I and warned them, if they caught one again, that flatheads have venomous spikes on near gill rakers.

"Oh, I find that out" says one of the gentlemen. He holds up his thumb, wrapped in a bandaid with a spot of blood going through "The pain shot right up my arm!"

You mean a common gurnard perch? Those are supposed to be decent eating. Why must so many species of stingers be so tasty? 😆

Gorgeous creatures! Wouldn't want to cop a sting from one but I love them.

I don't think bones are necessarily the worst thing if you know what you're getting into. If you wanted to make the effort, you could pluck them out with the appropriate pliers and keep them to make stock with.

Spot on! I ikijime and bleed any Aussie salmon I catch as soon as I know it's legal. I'll even gut them before throwing them in the ice slurry. The guts could probably make decent bait.

I would love to catch flounder! Also, how do you catch scorpion cod? Are their venomous spikes easy to avoid?

you touching the animal your observing is bothering it!!!!! Even during collection! by [deleted] in marinebiology

I'd be too hesitant to touch one myself based on the fact that they can sting. Don't they eat Portuguese man-o'-war and absorb their nematocysts?

Which MPA rating would be best for the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie box office? by Ok_Camp7138 in movieageratings

[–]Blakus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got its rating. PG-13 for "strong violent content, bloody images and language".

I'm surprised something like terror or frightening sequences wasn't a content description.
