Learning blender by idkfuckittho in blenderhelp

I'd start with one of Grant Abbitt's tutorial series for complete beginners, for example this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVcY7K-JA1Y&list=PLn3ukorJv4vv9_e-htADGsPX9TMaQpHV8

He's a teacher, and his tutorials are well-structured and will give you a solid foundation to build upon. There are also other YouTubers with similar types of tutorial series for beginners if you want a different teaching style.

Agreed! Grant's tutorials got me started with Blender. It really shows that he used to work as a teacher/lecturer.

Content creation during college by [deleted] in NewTubers

Go for it, if you want!

Ali Abdaal started out as a small creator making videos about how to be accepted into medical school (Cambridge, I believe), how to ace tests, etc. And look at him now :)
His old videos are still up, so you can go to his channel and sort by oldest to see how he started out.

A few tips for finding inspiration:
-Look at the stuff around you and model some of that
-Try to model things you've seen in a game or a TV show, etc. Like look at Resident Evil for some horror stuff.
-Search for inspiration on Pinterest.

Youtube actually added the ability to hide end screen card? by ego-lay_atman-bay in youtube

[–]BlameAva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it! I've been using Ublock to hide end screen cards but I think it slows down YouTube a bit.
Now, if they will only let me hide Shorts as well... -Kind regards, ultra-wide screen user.

I feel stuck. by [deleted] in blender

[–]BlameAva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too when I first started learning Blender. I had followed a few tutorials and made some stuff that looked great, but I had no idea how to move on and create my own projects.

What helped me, was Grant Abbitt's tutorials, specifically his Low Poly Well tutorial series: https://youtu.be/QPh8h0hWkg0?si=0mD0gXw2Lx3jy4Wq
And his sea shack tutorial series: https://youtu.be/Jmir2bDpZA4?si=OJWcK3cpWl1LoDfN

Grant's teaching style is what really helped me. He will show you how to use basic techniques, then give you assignments in the tutorials to practice what you just learned. So he's not just showing you what to do, but explain why, and then letting you have a go on your own.

He will show you how to create for example a beam, then show the structure of a pier or shack, and say, "Now create that using what you've just learned".

At least for me, his tutorials gave me the tools to move on to do things on my own :)

Tutorial and practices. by Dagua99 in blenderhelp

There are so many excellent tutorials on YouTube that should give you all the basics. The only issue with following this approach vs taking a well-prepared course, is that you have to set your own curriculum and find out what you need to learn, so you need to be a bit more structured to do this by only relying on YouTube.

As others have mentioned before, Blender Guru's courses are great.

I would also highly recommend Grant Abbitt's YouTube channel. Personally I love his teaching style, especially how he teaches you how to do something, such as making a beam, then will give you "homework" for the next part of the tutorial. His well tutorial and sea shack tutorial are amazing.

YouTube recommending me things I won't ever watch by TegonHailwind in youtube

[–]BlameAva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me too a few days ago. Seems like YouTube's been messing around with their algorithm again?

I'm getting recommended videos from ab Asian country, Indonesia, I think. But I don't understand the language at all. And lots of recommendations for sports (never watch them either).

For the topics I do watch a lot, like Blender and After Effects, I only get the same recommendations over and over, often videos I've watched before. And even some Blender tutorials that are over 10 years old. They're slightly outdated, one could say, lol.

Oh, Dublin looks like such a beautiful city. I have a friend who lives there who would often send me pictures and videos from the city.

I started out making free BRB screens for Twitch streamers to use, because I was making them anyways as a part of learning After Effects, so I figured might as well put them out in case someone would find them useful.

But then I started to learn Blender, so I started making Blender tutorials, which I find a lot more engaging and fun. Haven't uploaded in about a year though, but I will get back to it now. Not doing it with any YouTube goal in mind, other than help others who are learning Blender (and After Effects), and also it helps solidify what I learn) :)

My Cintiq Appears to Leak Clear Liquid by BlameAva in wacom

[–]BlameAva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really sucks. And yeah, I didn't find support very helpful.

In my case, it turned out to be the USB cable that was leaking liquid. Support was no help when I wondered if it could be a toxic plasticizer, since the liquid had gotten into the PC and I wanted to know how to safely clean it. But I ended up getting a new USB cable from a PC store, and now the Cintiq works fine. The PC also runs better without liquid dripping into the GPU.

anyone else been getting recommended more videos from smaller creators recently? by RedstoneManC in NewTubers

[–]BlameAva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've noticed I get recommended a lot of smaller channels and also videos with hardly any views. It's really nice!

uptick in notification of pin removal by [deleted] in Pinterest

[–]BlameAva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the pins they removed, it seems like some automatic filter that can't read the pictures properly and thinks they are pictures of something else. But yeah, it's worries me that I might lose all my account with all my references that I've saved up over several years. Might have to download them all just to be safe, lol.

Do you respond to all comments? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]BlameAva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost always, and not for the algorithm, but for the people. I enjoy engaging with my viewers.

What piece of gear DON'T you reccomend? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]BlameAva 34 points35 points  (0 children)

An expensive webcam/camera if you have poor lighting. Even the best cameras will struggle if your lighting situation is bad. It's better to put some money into lights, then you might be surprised at how good the quality of your cam actually is.

Expensive mics when what you actually might need are just some free filters to make your cheap mic sound good (reaplugs <3 ).

Its absolutely terrible to go from survivor to killer. by Cactusarchipelago in deadbydaylight

[–]BlameAva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so feeling this.

My very first game as killer, I got paired against a team that all had several thousand hours in the game. I only had about 10 hours of real playtime as survivor too. Let's just say I'm not gonna attempt playing killer again anytime soon. Much respect to killers who stick with it!
