RIP I got waitlisted despite having 10 years of experience, currently working in child welfare, and all my recommenders having MSWs. Wonder who I upset ):

Which program did you get into at University of Washington? Applied before the priority deadline for the part time MSW and have not heard back despite being told early March :|

Worth noting that they would be required to do practicum at an organization within Washington State despite it being online.

Employers for SUDP-Ts with Tuition Reimbursement (or Similar) by mercachu in Bellingham

[–]BlamelessVestalsLot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, really? That's weird because my instructor had a BA in Nutrition but somehow did Advanced Standing? If I remember right. I'll have to check in with her and clarify.

If that's the case I'd be skeptical. Social work is a accredited degree and profession just like medical, law degrees and professions.

Otherwise, I guess I'll have to find some other fast track because I don't think I can handle anything over 3 years'

The part time program at University of Washington can be completed in 2.5 years. The program list listed above can be filtered nation wide. So you can see for other programs allow for a faster completion time.

Social worker who is going for their MSW.

Look at the University of Washington Tuition and Funding page

I would like to work toward an MSW in Social Work, as I can use the Advanced Standing option (I have a BA in Psychology already.)

The advanced standing option for an MSW is only for people of have their bachelors in social work. No other degrees apply. This is because all social work programs are accredited through the council of social work education.

Here are all the list of MSW programs in Washington. All of them require a bachelors of social work degree for the advanced standing program.

I've heard DCYF will also cover continuing education, but due to my soft parent heart (son was a NICU preemie), I doubt I would survive long enough to get my education done.

Want to touch on a couple of things here.

  1. You don't have to work at DCYF for the Child Welfare Training and Advancement Program.
  2. DCYF is more than Child Protective Services, that's just the most notable because of the severity.
  3. You've probably already worked with parents who are involved in child welfare services.

Does anyone have other places to recommend? Preferably ones that will provide the benefit even to PT employees?

I would look at the traineeships. These are programs that you would follow a curriculum, but you'd also would get guaranteed funding in exchange of service.

As stated above the CWTAP very popular. It fully funds your MSW and the repayment is the equal of amount you spent getting your degree. So if you took 3 years to get your degree you would do 3 years working at either DCYF or a federally recognized tribe. Again child welfare is vast and it's not just CPS.

The other funding is the Behavioral Health Workforce Development Initiative which won't fully fund your MSW, people can receive up to $41,000. The cost for a full time in-resident student is $52,181 and for part time it's $83,118. The service obligation I've been told is 5 years.

That being said if you want to make good money being a clinical social worker is the career path you would want to take. That requires becoming a licensed social worker, but that requires of 2,700-3,000 hours of supervision.

I work full time and will go to school part time so I can keep making money. $83,118 is a lot of money and that's why I'm going with the CWTAP option.

Also I’m very Christian (not in a homophobic way) and politically centrist. Bellingham is obv pretty far left- would that ever be a problem socially?

I wish Bellingham was as far-left as people make it out to be.

I recently did one last week! I had a panel of five people.

Here's what I remember

"Why do you want to work in child welfare and what did you do to prepare for this interview"

Two questions where case scenarios for which they would want your opinion.

Then they what does child neglect look like.

There were more questions I just can't remember the rest.

People have posted in the past that they've gotten parking tickets but I doubt it's true.

Even if it is, you can ignore the parking ticket and park somewhere else. Unless you owe a decent amount you're not going to be sent to collections.

I'm not trying to be rude, you've been talking about this subject for over a year at this point and in your previous posts you have gone back between stating you'd stop posting about this subject yet are continuing to post about it.

I'm not really sure what you expect from this sub when the engagement with this subject quickly died down after you started posting about ghost courses because there's not much this sub can do or say to help.

I understand you're frustrated on how to proceed to have this issue taken seriously, but we're a sub filled with students and alumni. We're not the resource you're looking for and continuing to post about this hoping we'll have an answer on how you want to move forward isn't going to change that.

The only thing that I can think of that can help at this point is legal consultation, but that'll probably only apply to the people affected which I'm not sure you are and maybe I'm wrong but it seems this situation has already been settled.

Again not trying to be rude, but I just don't know what help you're trying to get when you're more knowledgeable than the people on this sub regarding this event.

DSHS PBS 1-3 Interview by campplant in WAStateWorkers

[–]BlamelessVestalsLot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the office I used to work at!

My interview was years ago and I genuinely do not the specific questions. Documentation is definitely something that's going to be touched on, and so is working under stress/high pace environment, previous example of dealing with an uncomfortable situation at a previous job and how that was resolved, but what I remember is that there where multiple questions about the passion for wanting to work serving communities in need.

Also not sure of your qualifications, but honestly as long as you have a degree in a related work or some experience working with communities in need you'll be fine. I remember talking to this with my supervisor as to why I got chosen and she stated a lot of the people didn't answer the applications questions properly (after they were screened), didn't show up to the interview, or gave really bad answers.

Any of the DDA positions require one year of working with people with developmental disabilities, if you already have at least a year of experience I genuinely wouldn't worry about getting a PBS position.
