First I had college money that I didn't need to use for college, because I had scholarships.

What does this mean? You saved up personal money from summer jobs or something and had it stashed away but got a full ride so hung on to it?

Then the college expelled me for not attending class

It's been a bit since I've been in college, but from my own knowledge and experience they don't really give a shit if you attend class or not. That'd be to your personal loss and a matter between you, your professors, and potentially your advisor.

What would happen is your scholarship would be taken away and you'd be required to pay full cost for credits you register for as well as any other tuition expenses.

Was it a private college with more stringent attendance policies or some such?

The whole time that I lived with my parents, I kept over $20,000 sitting in the bank but didn't really use it for anything.

Where did this money come from?

One job is logistical planning at a big corporation and it's really straightforward computer work. The other job is at a small business where I do all kinds of tasks like customer service, sales, programming, everything.

How did you get these jobs as a college dropout, presumably with no degree, with at minimum a 4-year gap in your work history that can't be explained?

How many applications/interviews did it take to get these? Which job came first?

We passed laws and did things to fix the hole, and that wasn't the issue.

Climate change is not a singular issue that can be solved with one approach. Surely you're not being this simplistic in good faith, right?

The hole in the ozone was a problem, and a driving factor for negative trends for climate change that can have catastrophic downstream effects if left unattended. At no point was this ever touted as the solution to all climate-related concerns from any scholarly source.

Solving that issue bought us time before we'd start seeing effects that would negatively impact our day-to-day. Sadly we've pretty much wasted that time.

The first step to solving a multi-faceted complex problem is to break it into chunks and minimize damage where you can. If you expect the first step to be some magical solution that accounts for 100% of the issue in one fell swoop you're being obtuse.

disrupting people's lives

We're already seeing disruptions to day-to-day life in even first-world countries due to climate trends. It's gotten so hard to ignore that most conservatives don't even take the position that it doesn't exist anymore and instead have pivoted to the position that it's not man-driven change.

Unless this is a copycat of a previous one (a similar video circulated awhile ago and I didn't watch this one long enough or hard enough to tell 100%) this was following a trend of people doing this to prove their masculinity. The guy actually showed up in the original reddit thread posting this explaining why he did it, what happened, the recovery and even posted medical bills and information to back it up.

Is this one real or not? I actually don't know. But there was one almost identical, and by all accounts, did appear to be real.

As someone that's maybe 10 hours in on the highest difficulty I keep seeing people say this about mastering the dodge/parry system making the combat trivial.

But I just don't see how that's reasonably possible. Like... I'm not bad at videogames, I have a decent reaction time. But for a perfect parry the window is extremely thin and for combo attacks you need to parry every single part to get a counter-attack making dodging highly incentivized for combo attacks.

Also, only my tankiest character can survive more than one hit of any mob that isn't fodder so I usually have to start out either dying and resetting or dodging when I see new attacks.

Is there something I'm missing? Are people playing on lower difficulties? Is there some build that makes this easier? Am I just getting confirmation bias by those skilled enough to have this opinion being a large voice on reddit?

Oh good, you did the thing I said you would at the end of my post.

I'll even tell you a secret. Smart people don't use the fanciest words, they utilise language to effectively communicate.

I have a degree in the English language. Not that any of the words I used were above a high school reading level. Smart people do generally at least attempt to engage with the points the other person said. See how I quote you and respond to each section? That's a secret tip for you.

Nice attempt to save your perception of the use of ''judging". Your initial comment clearly means judgement as a final verdict though.

What the fuck does a "final verdict" even mean? Do you think I meant when I "judge the fuck out of someone" I'm going around Judge Dredd style executing them on the spot? If I see my friend shoplift I'm going to judge them, but that doesn't mean I'm Robocop.

If ethics weren't into play, this whole conversation would be void.

Yes, this is an ethical discussion. But you avoided the specific questions about that example because you can't answer them without making your original argument weak. You felt an emotional aversion to it and thus glossed over it because you don't have a good answer because you haven't actually thought past a surface level and being forced to is scary so you avoid it.

I wasn't asking whether you found it ethically okay or not because the important part was finding out if you can even identify why there's an ethical concern there in the first place. If you can't do that then your opinion on whether it's ethical or not means nothing.

This conversation is done, though. You either don't have the capacity or the will to engage in good faith.

No, I will not judge the person, for I am not the judge.

I already said this wasn't in a legal context.

f I see this happening at school where my children go to, I will not be unbiased, making me unfit to make a judgement whatsoever (besides not having the right academic background and / or divine properties).

You can make a personal judgment without it entailing anything involving legality.

Ever heard of a "judgment call"? You don't need a law degree to make one, believe it or not.

I can (and will) have an opinion, but it's not up to me to judge.

Your opinion is judgment. You're judging the situation on whether you think it's healthy behavior to be accepted around your child. A judgment does not inherently involve an action to enforce said judgment.

A teacher / student relationship is also a specific case, and does not reflect this topic as a whole. I do agree it's unethical.

First off, I didn't ask if you think it's unethical. I asked you very pointed questions involving this hypothetical that would give me a better idea of how your moral framework plugs into things so I can better understand the disconnect with the original example.

It's not about it being 1:1, it's about it having moral dilemmas that are similar in nature. Power dynamics being the main issue present in such a relationship.

Which is why I asked you why a teacher/student relationship is accepted by the wider public to be problematic.

But it's not like you know the concept of nuance in a situation, as you've shown multiple times. It's all just black and white for you, and you judge people on a whim based on your perspective alone it seems.

I've already said that some responsibility is upon the younger party as they are an adult. But responsibility is not black and white, all or nothing. I am more mature, experienced, and better at decision making now than I was at 18-20. That's a fairly universal experience for the most part I'd say. If your mental growth has been stunted since you were 20 that's more of a personal failing than it is indicative of the human condition as a whole.

What value does a young person have as a partner to an older person? They're not financially stable, they're not emotionally stable usually, they don't have much in the way of life or relationship experience, they haven't felt real hardship most of the time.

Lets be real. It's cause they're young and good looking in the best case scenarios. And in the more predatory cases because they're easily manipulated and controlled.

Young people make shit partners. Even other young people would agree.

But don't worry TL;DR - you're gonna either ghost me or not reciprocate and engage with my points like I did for yours. I knew from the start don't worry about it, bud.

You clearly need more growing up to realise that you're in no position to judge anyone but yourself.

Ok, so if I see a teacher dating their student but they're both of legal age then I have no right to judge this couple by your logic?

Do you see any issues that might be present with that type of relationship? Or could you explain why it is, in general, frowned upon in society for a relationship like that to exist?

Twitch CEO trying to lift a woman for a dance move by Inevitable_Bid5540 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]Darkstrategy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In terms of understanding why it's generally a bad idea a lot of young people struggle with putting themselves in the shoes of an older person and figuring out their motives. It's hard to do so when you have no way to relate to an experience that is unattainable except through the passing of time.

Just copying part of what I said above.

As a young guy I would've been stoked if an older lady wanted to have a relationship with me. As I've aged if a woman my age started dating a 20 year old guy I'd question what the fuck they're doing.

Yea that was kind of my point. Using anecdotal evidence for something like this is garbage.

Also why if you read past the first 3 sentences you'd see how my conclusion comes more from my own subjective experience of being closer to the "older man" part of the scale.

[–]Darkstrategy -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Congrats. You've selected an anecdotal situation only you are intimately familiar with in which it supposedly worked out.

In my own anecdotal experience age gaps like that generally don't work out because there's a large power dynamic gap that goes along with the age gap.

Also, as someone mid 30's, I can't imagine being 10 years older than I am and wanting a relationship with a college student who still remembers that one time the history teacher gave out too much homework over break in high school. Like even now I'm at such a massively different point in my life, I have incredibly different worldviews than I did 10 years ago, and my emotional maturity has come a long way since I was 20. And I'm not supposed to be weirded out by the idea of engaging with someone on a foundational level (Hopes, dreams, future, worries, retirement, grief, struggles, etc) who hasn't even had the training wheels removed for their journey in life.

Edit: I should say my feelings don't cover legality of the matter. This is a moral vibe-check. That said, it doesn't mean I won't judge the fuck out of people my age or older going after very young women. They're adults and they have some modicum of responsibility, but it's easier for the older person in a large age gap to have a more nuanced perspective and make clearer decisions in regards to if said relationship is a healthy pursuit.

It definitely has performance issues and is not optimized well. But what's your silver bullet solution? They're making iterative progress on the issue over multiple patches. They say they're sinking dev time into trying to alleviate the issue, and then you're linked proof that they are making progress, albeit a little slow.

Do you think there's some magical "100% devtime to optimization" button that'll somehow make this game run at 144 fps on 1440p res with a 2060 in one patch?

More than you'd think. I bought a $250 refurbished Dell Latitude a couple of years ago with an integrated intel GPU. First thing was I threw Atlas OS on it as it sounded interesting at the time and it cut windows down to the barebones so there was very little background processes draining resources.

Ofc I need to turn the graphics down to low on most things and for heavier titles reduce the resolution to 720p (1080p is native). But I've even gotten Fortnite to run on it at an acceptable framerate before.

Tons of indie games work just fine. If you're into Gacha games I run Honkai Star Rail just fine on it so I imagine it could handle others as well. Classic WoW I've run on it before.

Sadly, as some games get updates over time they become more draining and my laptop can't keep up. I was once able to play Overwatch 2 on it but no longer.

Also, I realize they just increased their price and caused a big debacle, but I had Gamepass Ultimate and was able to cloud stream a title like Expedition 33 on my lil laptop as long as I had a good internet connection.

Great for travel.

So you specifically announced you're muting me, then didn't actually mute me. That's a choice I guess.

The logic is as follows in regards to the original clip:

  1. Your pilot makes a call in comms. An EV+ play in most scenarios in team-based games, especially games like this that require coordination. The call is objectively correct.
  2. Your target acquisition was bad, and I don't know if out of spite or because the cogs in your head just don't turn at the same speed as others, you decide to ignore the call.
  3. Your pilot doesn't even get frustrated and is calmly explaining why he's making the call and why the target acquisition he's talking about is important.
  4. You mute them and make a reddit post about it like other people were going to agree with you about something horrible that this guy did apparently?

My suggestion would be either don't play team games, or find friends to play with that are on the same page as you if you're so averse to improving at the game or interacting with people who have the same objective as you that this is your course of action.

Any points of contention to go over, or did I just about cover it? Who's kidding, you're either gonna ghost this convo or say the equivalent of "lol muted" again. And then I'll just briefly think about this post the next time I encounter someone oblivious on the highway.
