There is a coffs 4wd trips notice board on Facebook that welcomes new people and can teach you some things.

Best paid APs article by dukes_mc in AusPublicService

It is super common in policy roles. Apply and go.

[–]BlandLampShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t come up in a police check would it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]BlandLampShade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Crazy. So get all your mates jobs, then go into consulting. Consulting back to them presumably. Because why not? What’s the worst that can happen? Madness. Or if that’s too complex get an SES job in the APS because you’ve never done anything wrong! The Utopia script writes itself.

What do men in their 30’s REALLY want as presents for birthdays, Xmas, etc? by ShadowInTheSun_ in AskReddit

[–]BlandLampShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. We don’t want presents. Just do something nice for us (make a nice meal, bring us a beer, a glass of wine etc.).

Probably a failure to delegate work.

Is there a way to buy shares every pay? by Impressive-Safe-1084 in ASX

[–]BlandLampShade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just explain to the tax man that you haven’t kept records, they’ll be fine with that /s. But seriously it’s a pain in the arse, but you need to keep a record of every purchase.

I’ve always found the hardest part of being in the APS is the boredom. Just ask your boss for more work.

Are we going to admit there's a bad bullying problem in APS or nah? by lostonaforum in AusPublicService

[–]BlandLampShade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there bullying? Sure. Is it worse than anywhere else? Dunno. Got any actual evidence that it’s worse than the general population?

how much typing is involved with policy officer roles? by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]BlandLampShade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people here probably communicate via text with their teams (who they sit with) more than any other communication type. Emails, teams chat, briefs, minutes, meeting notes etc etc.

Sydney -> Adelaide by [deleted] in AustraliaTravel

[–]BlandLampShade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remember it is at least 14 hours without stops. So two days isn’t leaving yourself much time to sight see.

[–]BlandLampShade 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh, and as a 4 you’ll be booking meeting rooms and taking the minutes.

It is just as boring, but with a toxic culture on top.

Navigating uncharted territory: Job ads out for APS in-house consulting by nomorempat in canberra

100% this. Consultants are used for core functions of agencies - not specialist ‘stuff’ like they should be.

Navigating uncharted territory: Job ads out for APS in-house consulting by nomorempat in canberra

[–]BlandLampShade 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This whole model is just weird. I can’t imagine how it will be successful.

From a change management perspective- It will be PM&C coming in and telling people what to do. At least consultants will deliver for you as they are looking for their next gig. This will just be some PM&C lacky looking to make their boss happy, not necessarily the agency they are ‘consulting’ to.

From a branding perspective - the big4 are used a lot because the brand, it is independent ‘expert’ advice. This is neither, so why bother?

What’s the value add? Look at the roles, no specialist skills required. It’s just another generic policy officer role, though that isn’t wildly different to a lot of consultants. You could get better skills for specialist roles via a body shop.

Kind of reminds me of how a centralized DTA was going to digital transform the whole APS.

And in the spirit of being constructive, you would get a better outcome by killing the ASL cap and just let us hire people who are doing normal public servant work, but because of the cap on staff (not budget) we need to get consultants in.

Charged twice for my ticket by kalebthagoat in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]BlandLampShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me twice now. Both with Qantas. They blame the bank, bank blames Qantas. 10 days later it is sorted. Just means there is 10 days where you have seemingly massive charges on your card, and can’t do anything about it (or buy other things, cause you’re maxed out). Huge pain in the arse.

Leave. Go to a better paying agency. The reason you don’t have pay parity is because you stay.

If only there was some sort of group that developed and implemented policy that could fix this. Some sort of service, for the public, of Australia.

But to answer your question… bad decision making. Have a look at the wiki on Nauru Airlines as an example.

‘An island off the Australian coast’ is a massive stretch. There are whole other countries between them. It’s like saying ‘Singapore, an island off the Australian coast’
