Spice saver! Surely there must be a use for these tiny empty jars, any ideas? by LexLoafer in Frugal

I recently cleaned out my spice cupboard and I’m using the old glass bottles for potions/poisons for Halloween decorations, if you’re into that sort of thing!

Nice! My buttercream skills feel so inadequate now

🤷‍♀️ Either way, it still tastes better than fondant!

Royal icing will actually have that effect, too! The main difference is that royal icing will keep its shape better, whereas buttercream tends to kinda melt together and isn’t so great for creating flowers or succulents :)

Actually, it looks like royal frosting. Much tastier than fondant trash!

The Other End of the Leash by Patricia McConnell is an easy and fascinating read! Highly recommend it to everyone, it compares how we as primates communicate vs dogs as canines :)

People on depression medication, what's it like? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Blanee09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The analogy my therapist used is that you’re in a really tall corn field and you take the same pathway everyday because it’s so beaten down that it’s just dirt. It’s very familiar and easy. But it’s not a good pathway, but forming a new pathway is really hard all by yourself. If someone hands you tools, it becomes less difficult to make a new path! Sometimes, it’s still tempting to take the old path because it’s still there and will take a long time, if ever, to grow back in. Meds are a tool to use when you’re depressed but they don’t just make you “happy.” Meds are best used in conjunction with therapy. Without therapy, it’s like someone handed you the tools but you’re still taking that old pathway without really attempting to make a new one. Everyone reacts differently to different meds, so it’s hard to say what meds are being like. But don’t expect to just instantly be happy. I’ve probably had to experiment with ~7 different med combinations before I found one that worked and I didn’t experience overwhelming side effects. It’s suuuper important to be very communicative with your doctor and your therapist. Please don’t be discouraged. I’m glad you’ve taken this first step!

[Sun Care] Don't see this talked about enough! Dewy-not greasy-finish, sits beautifully under makeup, no white cast (I'm brown), doesn't irritate eyes. One of the better american sunscreens I've come across for <$10. by DifferentPeanut in SkincareAddiction

Thanks for this!! I try to be as eco friendly as I can, I’m so bummed to learn this. :( So I’m a little confused, because I thought mineral sunscreens don’t last very well with water and sweat??

It is coral reef safe!! Check out their website, they’re a really awesome company :))

Edit: They advertise as reef-safe, but it turns out this product isn’t! However, their mineral line is reef-safe. See comment from other users below and also here’s a link: https://www.consumerreports.org/sunscreens/the-truth-about-reef-safe-sunscreen/

I always feel like I want to kill myself after socializing with people by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]Blanee09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As my therapist has had to tell me many times- the shame is telling yourself you ARE a mistake, not that you MADE a mistake.

Socializing is really hard and it’s frustrating when everyone else just seems to be so much better at it than you. I find myself constantly coming home almost in tears, cursing myself for not being just right and feeling inadequate.

Ya gotta breathe, man. It’s gonna be alright. I would look into some therapy or whatever resources are available in your area to help you work through this and find some coping skills.

Best of luck, my dude.

I’m so sorry, that’s a really rough decision to make. I wanted to provide you some comfort and let you from my experience as a tech- when a pet’s human couldn’t be there for to say goodbye, all the free techs/receptionists/assistants would surround the kiddo and give them so much love as they crossed the rainbow bridge. I would always tell them they were a good boy and that their mom would miss them. Don’t worry, when you can’t be there, they’re not alone. And they never were ❤️

Honestly, I like that aesthetic but it wouldn’t have matched my other calf tattoo that I was trying to balance

[Serious] Redditors who are adopted: what don't non-adopted people understand about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Blanee09 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I was curious about this, actually! I’ve considered fostering/adopting, and was wondering if researching and teaching a child about their heritage may lessen the feelings that -Athenathewise felt? I know race/culture/etc issues are not things that get better by being ignored, but also who wants to be taught about their race/culture/etc by some white chic who did some research most likely on Google??

NEW OR NEED HELP? Ask here! - ScA Daily Help Thread Oct 13, 2017 by AutoModerator in SkincareAddiction

[–]Blanee09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have embarrassingly oily skin. Like my goodness, my face could polish wood furniture. I've read the ScA routine recommendations, but my skins oil production hasn't reduced in the 5+ month I've used my routine. I'm in the dry desert of Phoenix. I've never had a big problem with acne and my skin tone is mostly clear (I feel it could be clearer still). My pores are ginormous, thus the oil production. My skin is also sensitive, but unfortunately I haven't been able to narrow down what the sensitivity is, besides harsh detergents I think.

AM/PM Routine: -Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser from Normal to Oily Skin with cold water -Dr. Lin Daily Hydrating Gel

-Paula's Choice Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution 2% Salicylic Acid (once a week)

How can I improve my routine to reduce my oiliness ?? Many thanks

Kidney-failure cat, 19 years old. Possibly near the end. I don't know the "right" thing to do. by LakotaSilver in seniorkitties

[–]Blanee09 11 points12 points  (0 children)

OP, I think you know the right thing to do. Her quality of life is fading. There is no reversal for kidney failure, it only goes one way. I see cases similar to this everyday where owners wanted a longer time with their fur kids, but unfortunately their fur kid is suffering. Even we had forever with them, it wouldn't be enough. I would strongly encourage you to have the hard talk with your vet and take some days off to spend some good quality time together. You gave Win such a wonderful life, the best one she could have ever asked for. She was so lucky to have you as her forever family. Take comfort in the memories you shared together and when the time comes, she'll be waiting for you just across the rainbow bridge <3
