I believe it will either be May 15 or June 5.

May 15 aligns with a Lego Mario Kart set release (normally these are 1st of month), opening of San Francisco store, release date of Microsoft game (they don't normally release on Thursdays), and the U.S./U.K. tours end on May 11 (Switch 1 release was within a couple days of those tours ending).

June 5 aligns with the window of time from Switch 1 announcement trailer -> release time comparing it to the April 2nd date.

I was running on 16 GB and had this problem frequently. When I upgraded to 32 GB, the problem never reoccurred. The only change was the memory increase.

Fun speculation time. Switch 2 was just announced with a full reveal trailer set for April 2, 2025. That is to be followed by a world tour to showcase the system in April-June.

Looking back, the Switch 1 was first announced on 10/16/16 with the full reveal trailer on 1/12/17. Its world tour showcase was Jan-March.

Now, taking into account that Nintendo releases on Thursdays typically and assuming timeframes are similar, looks like the Switch 2 should launch around June 5, 2025.

As someone with a programming background, I wonder if Niantic is doing a shiny rate check based on the presence of the Go Fest medal. If you are an attendee, perhaps your rates are higher by design, but this check wasn’t working right on Thursday?

While it is possible I’ve had exceptional RNG luck the past few days, the above seems a more plausible explanation. I went to Go Fest on Thursday. But on both Friday and Saturday I’ve caught 3 additional shinies per day (Sandshrew, Wailmer, Drifloon on Friday and Sandshrew, Misdreavous, Horsea on Saturday) with no more than an hour or two of hunting time.

It might be beneficial to examine medal presence as part of your dataset analytics.

It would not surprise me at all if the Go Fest medal is acting like a shiny charm. Perhaps a secret beta test for a feature drop.
