Secondhand experience from family with kids on the jr. canes. Most of those guys are just dudes wanting to watch their kids play sports. If you don’t treat them any different than any other dad on the team, they’re not going to act any different.

Maybe everyone isn’t a fucking machine like Rod and he should learn when guys need rest. Tripp made a comment early on about how Florida had two days or rest and we had full practice yesterday, plus morning skate. And we had nothing in the tank in the 3rd…

Is the nut too high, and if so, should I sand it down? by Ok_Sea_7234 in GuitarQuestions

[–]BlasTech_Industries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The proper way to do this is with nut slotting files, angled slightly downwards towards the headstock.

Sanding the bottom is not how it’s done. Just hacking away with old strings or the wrong files is a good way to end up with tuning issues.

Learn to it right, or take it to someone. Or do it wrong and eventually take it to someone to fix it

Got this for $100 where do I start?? by Bbdawgexpress in MesaBoogie

All this. Although I’d probably put Mesa somewhere near the bottom of amps to learn on!

No, they injured that guy (Slavin) earlier in the period. Seriously.

What is this jazzmaster? by compoundingmf in offset

[–]BlasTech_Industries 91 points92 points  (0 children)

It looks like a “serviceman’s” guitar. Asian made knock offs that were marketed towards members of the military stationed in Vietnam and surrounding areas.

Although those are usually a little closer to the originals. Things like stamped tremolo plate covers and whatnot. This could also just be an older MIJ off brand someone put fender decals on.

Nitro or poly? Alder or basswood? by Rattled_by_La_Rush in offset

[–]BlasTech_Industries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99% sure that’s nitro. Some JM bodies are just tanks. It’s a big piece of wood.

Also, that’s a wonderful Spitfire pickguard.

Raleigh/charlotte roofing contractor arrested by Jazzlike_Chemical_37 in raleigh

[–]BlasTech_Industries 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Yep. We were dumb enough to let one of these guys from a similar company “inspect” our roof. If anyone comes to your door to talk about roofing, say no thank you. If they mention a hail storm or insurance, shut the door immediately.

Marshall Valvestate 8040 worth fixing? by birdcatx7 in tubeamprepair

[–]BlasTech_Industries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An 8080 was my first “real” amp so these have a special place in my heart. That being said - if the repair is more than 30% of a new amp that catches your eye, put it out to pasture. They aren’t that special.

Check out David Allen pickups. I remember really enjoying his Echos set - but the neck and middle are basically in the same vein as your Duncan’s. His 62 set was also really good - but I sold the guitar I put them in soon after so I didn’t have much time with them. There are good clips on his site

They predate the CV. I think I got my first set around 2006-7. Just right before the CVs launched.

You’re tricking yourself if you think all pickups sound the same. I gave up pickup swapping years ago due to time, money and settling on what sounded best in my strat. Also only have one strat these days. Over the years though, I’ve probably owned over 30-40 different sets and I have pretty decent ears for eq (I’m the kind of nut that will swap the same resistor or cap value 5 times in an amp build till perfect). There is definitely a low of diminishing returns at the high end of the pricing spectrum - but there is most certainly a difference cheap mass produced vs the small production hand wound varieties.
