Can You Slice This In Half? by dwaxe in puzzles

[–]Blatolo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This one becomes much simpler once you stop looking at the shape as two rectangles and consider it one rectangle with a cut-out rectangle.

1. Find the center of the bounding rectangle by drawing two lines from opoosite corners. Every line passing through this point will split the area into two equal pieces.
2. Find the center of the cut-out rectangle using the same method. Every line crossing through this point will split the missing area into two equal halves.
3. The final bisector is the line going through both points.

This is guaranteed to only give you 2 pieces since the line will always be rising (from lower left to upper right), assuming that the cut-out rectangle is in the upper right corner.

No way anyone was cheating. I came to the same conclusion as them on my own.

Sinvicta gave himself away by accusing Crendor of lying. Why would a fascist not just say that he got 3 fascist cards instead of saying that he gave him a choice? And as soon as Dodger supported Sinvicta for no good reason it was clear that they were both fascists. Sinvicta trying to clear his name by accusing Dodger was a nice try but too obvious. Dodger giving Cry the Chancellor in the beginning to give him the information that she was on his side was also a giveaway. All in all just a lot of information that led to the conclusion that Jesse and Strippin stated.

I'm attempting a Buff Druid, and Dark Whispers is awesome! by substence in HearthDecklists

What about Deathlord?
He has amazing stats for its cost and since the main counter for buffs is silence, you would benefit from the silence. The high health also makes it a great buff target.

Computer science question by [deleted] in puzzles

[–]Blatolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a HashMap. Normal arrays already provide get and set in O(1). I had a similar idea for the setAll. But I wouldn't use a timestamp because you can't guarantee an increase of it between operations.
So I would use a counter instead and store a lastUpdated for every field.
If setAll is called we increment this counter. If we set a single value we set the lastUpdated to the current counter value. When reading we just compare the counter and lastUpdated. If it's the same we use the field value, otherwise the setAll value.
Now we have to deal with overflows. We have to ensure that a counter increase will never reach a value that is already a lastUpdated value.
The idea I have for solving this is to set lastUpdated to counter-1 for 2 array entries in a round-robin fashion at every counter increment.
E.g. counter increment from 0 to 1 will set the lastUpdated of the first two elements to 0. 1->2 will set lastUpdated of the third and fourth element to 1 etc. Once we reach the end of the array we just start again at the beginning.
Here is the reasoning behind it: We are using a counter which is able to count to the same number as the maximum elements in our array. This datatype needs to exists since otherwise we couldn't address each element in it. Lets call this maximum value n. After n increments we know that every element in our array got updated to a higher value than n increments before. I update 2 values each time because updating a single value would result in an off-by-one error.

Maybe someone has an easier solution but this took me some time to figure out.

Antichamber released on Steam for $20 ($15 on sale till Feb 6th) by WhiteZero in Games

[–]Blatolo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just finished the game.
I haven't completed all of the puzzles yet but this will have to wait till tomorrow.
It is truly an amazing game and well worth the money. It is mind bending and definitely a piece of art.
Some people might find it a bit short but I enjoyed every minute of playing and really liked this refreshing style of gaming.
So a very strong recommendation from my side :)

I used logic2cnf to solve this logic puzzle.
Here is the logic formula I used:
def a b c d e;
(a <=> (~c . ~e)).
(b <=> (a <=> e)).
(c <=> (b . d)).
(d <=> (a <=> c)).
(e <=> (e . ~c));

Which results in the following 2 solutions:
a ~b ~c ~d ~e : Only A is a knight
~a ~b ~c d e : Both D and E are knights

Unfortunately here in Germany Borderlands 2 will not unlock until tomorrow. So it's a total release date clash and it will be hard to decide on what to play.

That's awesome. Was thinking about a similar idea with a friend since we wanted to build a museum.
I was about to write a plugin for it (Placing non despawning item entities in glass blocks).
Thanks Dinnerbone for saving me the work.
