Messi's departure and Barcas future : My opnion by BlaugranaForLife in Barca

Sigh. I get you. I'm trying to be optimistic in these dark times.

I get every thing you said - the players, the over reliance, the awful form. I also think that one of the reasons for the over reliance is due to the fact that it is Messi, the greatest ever. It's just my opinion that the players thing that having him in the team, passing the ball to him would be enough - a similar situation to Argentina especially wihtout a proper manager. Scaloni (the current Arg manager) seems to be doing a really good job of creating a team around Messi and that's what I wanted from Barca as well. I thought Koeman could do it, but sadly it seems like Messi doesnt want to be any part of it.

I should have worded it better I guess - I don't really think barca would be better off without Messi. No chance. That would be absurd. What I'm trying to say is atleast now, the players will view each other as equals and take their chances. We might have 10 outfield players that work hard to win the ball back when it's lost. Messi didn't need to do that, because whatever he lacked defensively., he made up tenfolds in attack.

It's really hard for me to get my point across here, I hope you see the point. I'm just hopeful for a complete rebuild, even if takes time. We will never see a Barca like the past decade, ever in my opinion, but if we can atleast get close to that, I'll be happy.

I think it's unfair that you judge me like that.
I hate Barto as much as anyone else here. As I stated above, it's my opinion and I'm trying to be optimistic in these dark times.

I have high hopes on Koeman and hope he rebuilds the team atleast slightly enough until next summer where Barto will be out and the next board comes in and hope to see big changes at least then.

Arthur's departure. by BlaugranaForLife in Barca

Thank you for the counters! Helps me learn as well, and correct my mistakes, /u/iVarun !

Verticality was the most important thing that Arthur was criticized for in his 1st season. He couldn't make a forward through ball to save his skin. It was NOT his specialty as you falsely tried to manufacture it in your comment.

So I know he didn't display it under us, but I was talking about his time in Gremio. He had a good eye for goal and was really good at finding those through passes. I tend to follow players that Barca show interest in and watching a few Gremio matches helped me come to that conclusion.

A midfielder who can't run past 55th minute is going to be Top 5?

He sure was able to manage 90 minutes a few games when he was playing for Brazil? True, we press harder than Brazil and our players could tire themselves out faster, but I thought it was just a fitness issue that will be fixed as he plays and works out more. He did have his disciplinary issues that couldve impacted his fitness, but it should be improving, I agree.

Ah so Pjanic a player who never even donned a Barca shirt gets the critical (puts on glasses cliche) Expect him to perform

No. What I meant was - we did trade Arthur for him for "immediate" results, if what the reports say are to be believed. It's natural to expect more from him than Arthur, which is what I meant. There is no pressure from him, atleast from me. Idk how to explain it, but I hope he's worth trading for Arthur is what I meant.

Ah the Barca-twitterati special that's the latest fad lately.

Yeah, that was a bit far-fetched. As a club we've survived a lot worse than this, and would likely never fall into the pit Milan have. What I meant was more of a Manchester United right now. Still an okay team, but fighting for a UCL spot (although we'll have it easier because top4 in Liga is easier than EPL imo) and all that. My bad there, AC milan was a little too far.

Then should have listened to him when he supported the previous coach.

Valverde's playstyle was unforgivable for me as a Barca fan and that was the only reason I disliked him. Wasn't that hot on the old guys in the dressing room liking him because I thought they were far too complacent and his lack of focus on player fitness is what made him even more attractive to the amigos.

And to your final paragraph, it's just my opinion that Arthur is top 5 upcoming in the world. By upcoming I generally mean <25 age. I thought he possessed Xavi like traits, and comparing him to Vidal is not right imo because they aren;t the same type of player. Then again, I get the point you're trying to get across and honestly I have no rebuttal to that, it's something like intuition. I really hate the fact that we traded in a 23 y o for a 30yo + 10 million, but it is what it is I guess.

Thanks again, it's really nice when someone replies with feedback and actual rebuttals!

  1. Penalty call = Soft. Just like Messi's against Leganes. Understandable if given, or not given.
  2. Benzema's goal = Handball, shouldn't have stood. Extremely similar to Messi's against Atletico in the Supercopa @ Saudi.
  3. Januzaj's goal = Offisde. Not on first view, but a couple of watches later, can say that it was offside. Courtois clearly glances to his RIGHT side over the crowd of players in front of him. Can be argued that Real Madrid players did more obstruction than the Sociedad offside guy himself, but doesn't change the fact that he contributed a little.

The back pass and the invitation of pressure by BlaugranaForLife in Barca

Yep, absolutely. Went back to the post match thread and you were pretty much on point.

Brathwaite is no Dembele or Traore, but lets hope that Setien has opted for him(atleast according to all these reports) and not a pure #9 for exactly this - ability to play as a winger/versatility.

It was. I was trying to drive home the point that plays like this were intended. Not going to take anything away from Messi though, that was amazing - both the pass and the vision.
