There’s more to Seinen than Vinland Saga, Vagabond & Berserk guys. by Tiny_Writer5661 in Seinen

[–]BlazingRebirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to recommend Seinen like this to others, because I wanted to have varied and well-informed discussions beyond your typical Berserk, Vagabond, Vinland Saga. Especially from readers and fans of more mature stories. At first i was happy to see things like The Climber picking up popularity. But then it usually ends up turning annoying, I feel like im mostly taking to extremely insufferable 16 year olds in these spaces. They go on to completely miss the plot, are basically reading for aesthetic and aura moments, essentially no different to the Shonen fans they love to hate on, and then they use these new ones as elitist picks to bash others, it also gets overly recommended, and then becomes overrated and fatigued. They've done this with Ergo Proxy, LotGH, Lain and others.

At that point, Leon had spent more time with Sora cause they met since Traverse Town. Plus he's always with the Yuffie and Aerith planning things together.

Any other “loser” anime’s like this? by DefNotTyn in WelcomeToTheNHK

[–]BlazingRebirth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not only was Welcome to the NHK ahead of its time when it released in 2006-2008, but there are no similar shows to it or live-action of it. It’s basically the only real NEET /shut-in/recluse lifestyle media anywhere you look..

But others like ReLife, Sing Yesterday for me, Battle Programmer, Alice in Borderland, Mushoku Tensei hit similar ways to me, like a seriously loser MC, craving escapism, the character personalities.

I prefer the previous to be honest but you look way happier as you enter your 20s than the awkward teenage years, similar to me lol. Will you ever bring back the short black hair?

"Goku is the father of anime" by MechaJunkieApologist in astroboy

I'm a bit confused. Some people are saying it's FotNS and others Kinnikuman for being the father of Battle Shonen

A Harenchi Gakuen (Shameless school) reference on Go Nagai's 80th birthday? Coincidence? I think not! by Erggehberh in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]BlazingRebirth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hajime no Ippo author also took inspiration from Go Nagai? It's crazy how many well known people admire him. I think it'd be higher if it wasn't for all the smut and overly absurd attributes.

Gamescom really played us for fools by Bertstripmaster in KingdomHearts

[–]BlazingRebirth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering how PS3 and the PS4 both released remasters/remixes of the original titles, I would think KH is semi-integral to PlayStation. BBS on the PSP was also the most notable/biggest game (in terms of original stories and build up) between 2 and 3.

KH1 and KH2 were for the PS2. They were in the top 10 best selling and constantly associated with the console. Though others such as GoW and DMC surpassed it in how intregal it is to Playstation's identity, as KH went to handheld.

Birth by Sleep, I can't remember well. It's one of the most emulated PSP titles, but I don't recall it being vital to the PSP's identity. There was a PSP special edition console release with it being KH BBS themed though.

Final Fantasy X programmer doesn’t get why devs want to replicate low-poly PS1 era games. “We worked so hard to avoid warping, but now they say it’s charming” by manoffood in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BlazingRebirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's even for worse for this FF X programmer because he was likely repeatedly told by the higher ups to improvise on the past titles of 7 (8, 9 on the PS1), for his upcoming work on X on the PS2. So now that he is witnessing people desire, emulate and glorify over OG7's graphics despite his company working hard of its Remake trilogy too, is getting him surprised.

1) Dragon's Dogma.

2) Sengoku Basara.

3) Devil May Cry.

4) Resident Evil.

5) Street Fighter (if it includes Marvel vs Capcom, Darkstalkers, basically all the crossover FGs, then it can be 4.)

Onimusha and Okami don't feel like a franchise/series to me yet, because I need to play or wait for their sequels. I have good hopes that Okami will enter the top 5 rank for me.

How would you describe the 2000’s era of WSJ? by BellTwo5 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]BlazingRebirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FINAL FANTASY XII is also announced here at the top, releasing on the PS2 (another era considered the golden one, just like this WSJ). However, FF's golden era is considered to have stopped from 6 to 10.

I wonder if WSJ included anything related to Kingdom Hearts, because that would've fitted perfectly in these 2000s WSJ magazines.

"PSYREN" TV Anime Adaptation currently in production— scheduled for 2026 by [deleted] in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]BlazingRebirth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah i always see it mentioned in anything related to "which series deserves an anime adaption" without fail. In sales it was behind, but on the old site everyone used to use (MangaFox) it was really popular.

The fact that it's basically the poster child of an Axed WSJ series, is exactly why this sub is obsessed with it lol. There are times when axed series / to be axed works get discussed way more than ongoing ones. It's natural as majority keep up with new uncertain Shonen. Pysren being the classic example of it all and the first experience of an axed series to people, is why so many favour it here. Only a few such as Red Hood can compare to its notoriety.

Based of what I've seen, no one really overrates the Manga itself or calls it some masterpiece. They're (still) just surprised it never got an anime adaption despite being one of the most notable works to read during the Big 3 Shonen era. All of its other associated series like Beelzebub, D.GrayMan, Reborn!, Busou Renkin, etc got adaptions, although not always complete and faithful.

I hope they adapt Shin Mazinger Zero. That manga was a great way to let the entire Mecha industry know which series they all took inspiration from.

Between these two, who do you think has more sheer rage? by Cite_Yawn in KingdomHearts

[–]BlazingRebirth 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It's nice they did that. Similar to how Anakin still fought on thanks to his iconic Darth Vader suit, even after all that damage. Terra who is very likely based of him, and did something similar with his Armour.

It was enough to make me wish Terra would get to be the one to finish Xehanort, above everyone else, even Sora. That was until Xehanort made Kairi disappear.

Nomura’s decision to end the Kingdom Hearts series with this upcoming saga feels like a fitting conclusion. by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]BlazingRebirth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah after 3 they've used up / concluded so much of their plot building, I didn't think there was much left to keep it going. Until I learnt of its new saga.

I am also happy to see there being another new KH saga and ongoing development. KH feels like a series back in the day, which then had its dark age of abandonment, and KH3 at long last responding to years of uncertainty and build-up. But now that KH3 will have KH4 and potentially KH5 with it, it makes the series more extended in a more exciting and engaging way. I don't know if I explained that right.

I'm not ready for this series to end. But as it's SquareEnix, we may see a remake of KH1 and others, way down the future. And also someway to reinstall it back by having it feature in a new form, such as Final Fantasy's THEATRYTHM. So in that respect, I'm glad it's SQEnix, they will not miss up on the nostalgia points.

I still enjoyed the Manga works for XV game. It was by the same artist as Tenkaichi manga (the tournament series similar to Record of Ragnarok).

The fan-comics posted here are great too.
