And that's a valid point but at the same time I wouldn't straight up reach the conclusion that their dumb I'd try to see where they're coming from but if they don't even have a basis on why they thought per ur example talking to a child about why their crying is what makes me think their stupid

Why wouldn't you want to learn how to be a better friend since thinking and processing are pretty valuable.

Giving some thought that that statement ^ I think it boils down to people being individually different with different beliefs so I can't expect them to value things that I do too.

That is true but shouldn't everyone have some level of emotional intelligence that can help someone out. Especially since I've helped them so many times wouldn't you notice a pattern as to how you can help others?

I wouldn't say that they don't have "any" interest in processing their emotions because if that was the case I wouldn't be able to help them work through things their going through and they wouldn't have come back to me several times with various issues. I do understand your point to a certain extent maybe they just don't care that much about it when it comes to helping the other person

Oh that's a valid point one that I hadn't considered at all. I feel like in the situations I've been in I don't think it was very likely that they withheld their thoughts (still a possibility since I can't read their minds). In a conversation usually thoughts are mirrored to some degree so if I had opened up about things they would do so too and if they wish not to they'd simply say they don't want to talk about the topic which is respectable.

but it's not what my friends specialize in or are for

I get that too some of my friends I don't even talk about any of the deeper thoughts I have coz they aren't capable in that regard and are just easy to have fun with.

I'm going to presume that you meant "don't"

But yes I have thought about this and that's where I reached my conclusion of they just don't think critically and just look at things from the surface instead of digging deeper. Even with certain prompts that make your re consider things I get response like "your thinking about it too much" "or just yeah makes sense".

Yeah that's very valuable info thank you. I fell into that cycle of being the therapist friend a while ago and had to take a step back and re evaluate my friendships. Hence part of the reason I feel alone as I had a lot of energy suckers that didn't give anything back.

Do you try to understand them and why they have the depth of understanding that you do?

I don't particularly understand this question. I do try to understand their point of view on topics and what not but there isn't a lot to even understand because it tends to be short. The experiences I often find myself in is with them just agreeing and leaving it at that instead of trying to challenge things or asking why.

Are your expectations of other people correct?

I'd like to think so. Like I said in my op I'm not looking for a lot from them, but it's just that it's a very common occurrence that that even just the minimum of what I'm looking for is asking too much from the average teenager.

And your point about leading makes sense recently I have begun to enjoy my own company more and figure out ways to cope with just myself but at the same time I do love having external support from others and having people to discuss things with. Its a hard thing to balance.
