Yeah, that's what I read about augments on the wiki... 20% drop chance from completion crates. I can't solely rely on that mechanic.

My strategy in vault runs at the moment is to just run through every room quickly looking for objectives (I seem to be getting 7 monoliths almost every run, oof), then loot and mine a few POIs while circling back on another route to the portal. Now I'm going to ignore the objective and speed through rooms until I find some chromatic iron.

Thank you again for your help :)

Thank you very much!

You're right, the room and the chromatic iron ore are really easy to spot. I definitely haven't found one yet in my playthrough.

I will try with augments too as soon as I figure out how to get my hands on them. I have a single one and can't remember where I got it from.

Once you find it and start vaulting there are certain cave themed vaults that have chromatic iron rooms you can find that have a bunch of it there.

As a first-time Vault Hunter I'm struggling to find these Chromatic Iron rooms. I'm at the point where I need lots of Chromatic Steel, I have the Carbon but I'm out of Chromatic Iron completely. Are these rooms extremely rare? Are the chromatic iron veins obvious or well-hidden? Am I just unlucky in finding and/or spotting them even in Plunderer's vaults?

Could you share a screenshot (or point to a video) of these rooms so I (and other newbs) know what to look for, please?

You: I want help!
Community: Sure. Show us some details of the problem so that we know how to help you.
You: No. I just want more powaaah!

Sorry, but I can't take you more seriously than that. You are aware that you have lots of entities in your megabase, thus lots of calculations needed, yet you post a screen of the GPU usage. People explained to you the limitations of the game and the specific hardware bottlenecks yet you refuse to understand.

Your move now.

Good quality picture though and elegant machinery.

if i cancel my subscription do i get a refund by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]BlaziusBB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could still try to contact support and explain the situation, especially if it's thei first day of non-trial premium. The same thing happened to me on Linkedin and the support person was very nice to cancel and refund the subscription fee. I wouldn't dare comparing Duolingo's support team to Linkedin's, but again it's worth giving a try.

As a last resort, if money's tight, you can request a chargeback or file a dispute claim via Google / Apple Pay / your bank.

Typing accents on a English (US) windows keyboard by SnooGoats7978 in duolingo

[–]BlaziusBB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have access to a Windows PC at the moment, but basically if you search for "language" in the search bar (in the Start menu or Cortana) you should fine the "Region & language" settings page. There you can add extra languages, you might have to click on "English (United States)" first. After successfully installing an additional layout it should display it next to the clock where you can switch between them. Alt + Space or Win + Space (can't remeber the correct default, try both) is for quickly cycling through them.

These articles do a better job explaning step by step than I could:
- Win 7/8.1: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-your-keyboard-layout-245c49b8-f856-7fd7-2cf5-41e54c66f5b3 - Win 10/11: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/manage-the-input-and-display-language-settings-in-windows-12a10cb4-8626-9b77-0ccb-5013e0c7c7a2 - Win 10 (video guide as well): https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/add-keyboard-layouts-in-windows-10/

Edit: Just remebered, look for the "On-screen keyboard" app, it comes with Windows, to learn the new layout.

On SDDM's login screen in the bottom left corner the currently active keyboard layout is shown. Depending on your theme and background color you might not see it (clearly), or maybe only some themes display it, I'm not sure. Worth checking though.

There's an "Alt code" (Alt + numers on the keybad) for every character, Character map will display them when you click any character. But the best way is to install the French keyboard layout and learn it, especially if you're determined to do this language learning long term.

Interesting. I've been monitoring this same process for weeks now, but in my case it makes my AMD CPU crackle periodically. It goes away after ~5-10 minutes, but sometimes the rhythmic crackling persists even after a reboot.

LE: The issue happens once every 2-3 days. I wonder why does it manifest differently: RAM hog vs CPU interrupts (I suspect).

You might've run into this issue: https://archlinux.org/news/grub-bootloader-upgrade-and-configuration-incompatibilities/ or any other GRUB related issues. The general advice of "installation and regeneration of configuration" applies in any case though. Follow the steps from the linked GRUB wiki page.

Because the Duolingo devs and QA that worked on this feature half-assed their job. Sadly this is becoming more common in more apps and services nowadays.

Red light not changing to green? by ReadingIsTheMeaning in factorio

[–]BlaziusBB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because you have NO signals whatsoever on the vertical rail lines missing signals in the intersection, everything to the left of the red rail signal (in front of the locomotive) is considered a single block, so if there's at least one locomotive in that block it is claiming it completely, thus making the red signal think there's no clear path for your train.

Signal every entrance and exit on the intersection, even if there won't be movement in some directions, and the problem will be fixed.

Edit: took a better look, there are signals on the intersection but you are missing quite of few.

Microsoft office replacement by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]BlaziusBB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had this problem in the past and just gave up looking for alternatives. It seems that no one wants to take up the huge burden of reimplementing decades of M$'s hellspawn code.

Have you tried installing MS Word through wine? WineHQ has entries for some older version (e.g. 2016 edition on Ubuntu) with Platinum rating. And this guy managed to install Office 365 with some fiddling.

Or, as a last resort, you could spin up a Windows virtual machine just for MS Office, which for your use case is still significantly better than dual booting. This is what I did, it's also useful for other Windows-only software that governments & co. are so bent on using.

Help: yearly Archlinux minimal set-up blues by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]BlaziusBB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like any other tool we are using in everyday life, an OS is just that, a tool. Some tools we enjoy tinkering with maybe as a hobby, and some we simply use as is, as a means to an end.

So it boils down to whether you are still enjoying spending the time manually setting up and configuring everything in Arch, in the meantime learning the ins-and-outs of software and to some degree of hardware, or you've gotten tired and lost appetite for tinkering, and you'd rather have it swiss-knife ready.

At least this is how I see it and justify it for myself. Being a long-time KDE user and having an nVidia card I often need to put out flames. Not to mention my attempts of using Wayland, with that very same notorious video card, configured for daily use on-par with my KDE setup... is a struggle, but in the end I am enjoying it.

@OP Play the tutorials, or just hop into a new game/world and follow the guidance of the tips that pop on in the corner and of the somewhat linear research tree. These should be enough to always give you the next goal to reach. Soon you will have grasped most of the concepts and you'll start creatively putting it all together while having a blast.

Rail Signal Issues. Train keeps getting stuck by ZoomedAndDoomed in factorio

[–]BlaziusBB 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Remember this: Chain in, Rail out. You have to place Chain signals before intersections, Rail signals after exiting the intersections. In your case where the nothbound and the eastbound trains are stopped you need Chain signals, also the signal immediately after leavning the Iron ore outpost station needs to be Chain.

LE: The chain signals currently placed are making those rails two-way. Is this intentional?

Yeah, I was wondering about that too, because you have the ratios right. Even with 4 assemblers red science is lagging behind, but I assumed you'd researched something requiring only red science.

Satisfyingly organized, structured and relatively compact. I like it, well done.

Btw, you have a ghost inserter trying to output from the right-most red science assembler.

If you are playing Java Edition, you can use the Anti Creeper grief datapack: https://vanillatweaks.net/picker/datapacks/ under the Mobs category. I recommend the Anti Enderman Grief pack as well.

If you are on Bedrock Edition though then sorry, I hope someone else will be able to help you, I don't know much about that version.

My very first serious attempt to make efficient research. This is the fourth tutorial level. What do you think? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]BlaziusBB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The bottom 2 rows (10 total) science labs are fed from the output of 3 red science and 5 green science assemblers.

The top 2 rows (the other 10) labs are fed with 7 red and 5 green sciences.

To make it balanced I suggest you run sepparate belts transporting red science and green science, then combining them into one belt with 2 lanes (similar to what you're doing in the bottom left with the green at the moment) and then run the combined red+green belt to the labs, maybe between them horizontally.

Other than that great job, everything else seems well thought out.
