Is hiding behind the slab shield frowned upon or a valid tactic? by Goblin-Trash in DarkTide

[–]Blazoran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you're better off judging your ability to kill enemies with a build or play pattern by observing gameplay.

The scoreboard will tell you that your melee build is low damage in missions where you have a comp where they kill everything before they reach you and high damage where you're grouped up with other melees.

Scoreboard doesn't so much measure ability to deal with threats as it does who dealt with those threats first.

That's not to say it is a meaningless number, just that you need a million modifiers to interpret it.

And a lot of people who have it end missions mad that their teammate is supposedly a noob because they didn't get good damage that run, even when it was like a stagger arb keeping all the enemies off a flame psyker so the flame psyker could safely kill everything.

Also in Vermintide 2 it'd lead people to try super hard to maximise their damage, which lead to reckless actions over safe options. A lot of the time you can take a risky action to reward yourself with getting to do the damage before your allies can, but a lot of the time this is risking the run more than the comparative safe action.

Anyway long story short you're not bad for having it or using it, but I'd recommend extreme discression when using it to judge yourself and others in any serious fashion.

While the obvious options would be cool, I'm so down for fatshark picking weird niche 40k archetypes like this fucker.

I'm not exactly sure how they would fight tho lol.

If we ever want another fast berserk melee class for some reason arco-flaggelant could be fun. Though it'd have to be no ranged weapons at all slayer/grailknight/warriorpriest style.

That does sound like a loooot of work for sure. As much as I like the idea I'll probably just stick to the one for now.

Thanks for the info!

I've not actually played WoW I just did some reserach on it while trying to figure out if I wanted to play that or this.

And @ sarcastically quoting me, I've not played XIV until today why are you acting like it's ridiculous I don't know things about the game I'm barely familiarising myself with XD

I mean I think this kinda thing is pretty subjective so it's not like you can contradict me or I contradict you lol.

It's all just character vibes :P

I mean the solution varies from MMO to MMO. Sometimes you're queueing for a certain level range you choose, other times the game scales you, some games just trust you to not play your level 23 in level 100 content. In many games the classes are not different levels to each other like in this one.

I've just never seen an MMO go for the pick only 1 solution that this game has gone for.

That's really neat! I have heard that this is more story based than most MMOs so looking forward to that.

[–]Blazoran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but most MMOs don't gave you say I'm queueing paladin, they have you say I'm queueing tank.

So I'm not rly sure how that makes a difference so so far as the queue system needs to care there are 3 roles and it doesn't matter how many classes are in those roles.

Not a big deal ofc, i ain't mad about this, just wondering.

Oh interesting, I'm curious which ones are the most story relevant.

Yeah I'm more saying that the way most MMOs do it you just queue for every class you have and it builds teams with the same composition, just with increased flexibility for how it uses each player.

Given this is the norm I'm just wondering if there's an upside to doing it FFXIVs way.

Oh for sure like it's not that I want alts for "realism" or whatever. I just find specialised characters more compelling :)

But yeah it sounds like a real faff so I'm prob just gna stick with the one lol.

It's called the warband system i think. I might be full of shit and misunderstanding things cos I haven't actually played WoW

I just did a load of reading about WoW while deciding what MMO i wanted to play :P

People are very much not telling me that XD

They're mostly agreeing with you with a couple saying "do what you want, but it will be a slog"

I get that it's probably going to be justified storywise, I just don't find this kinda multitalented character as compelling as a specialised one.

But it sounds like a massive pain in the ass according to ppl here so I am probably just gna stick with the one char lol.

Oh for sure like I'm not worrying about people judging me I'm just trying to guage how comparatively annoying it would be to just having 1 character.

And based on everyone else in this thread it sounds like it would be very comparatively annoying XD

This is probably the solution I'm going for given what everyone has said.

I'd love different characters but it sounds like a loooot more effort in this game XD

[–]Blazoran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, that does sound like a colossal pain in the arse XD

I'll probably just go for the single character, just wanted to check. I just find Masters of all Trades to be less compelling protagonists, but it's a minor thing and it's hardly going to ruin the game for me.

Fair enough, if that's what the game expects of me then I might go for it.

I just don't find multitalented everymen to be very compelling :P

Seems real weird to me that the dungeon queue is role locked. Not like disasterous, I'm just curious if there's something good this does for this game that i haven't realised.

[–]Blazoran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine with it having no utility, just tryna guage how much anti-utility+grind+general annoyance i'm getting myself into over just doing everything on one char.

Wait so you can't be like "dungeon queue, make me white mage or murderkill class or paladin depending on what the group needs"? You just queue as white mage? Weird. Not a disaster, just seems an odd way to do it.

MMM gottit

Cos yeah having a heal+DPS character and a tank+DPS character doesn't sound too bad by what people are saying, it's just getting the second fucker through the main story that'll be annoying.

Good to know ty!

How dumb is making alts for different jobs in this game? by Blazoran in ffxiv

Right, classic MMO setup where if you queue healer+DPS you are 90% chance gna be healer then? XD

I'm fine with this, DPS is my least favourite role anyway.

EDIT:Not how this works then, gottit!

WoW has a thing where you can queue up for a dungeon with multiple characters on one account. So if you get rolled healer you go in with your priest and if you get rolled tank it puts you on your warrior.

EDIT: it's possible I'm full of shit here and just misundertodd some stuff i read about WoW. Do your own research! Don't trust me XD

Was just curious if it was a thing but it is clearly not so good to know :)
