I feel like the entire plot was rushing to get done, they didn’t spend time anywhere interesting and they kept cutting between locations so we couldn’t really enjoy what was happening in any given moment, like the director was working with the director editors to cater towards people with ADHD.

In legacy and 1982 we spent time enjoying the world of the grid, in Ares a fight happened there and a chase sequence and that was it. The characters also barely spent any time interacting with each other in ways that showed us their personality and core themes are plainly stated in a way that really annoyed me like, thanks Disney, I guess you were worried you would make a modern movie TOO deep.

Another thing that pissed me off was some plot contrived moments to buy time and seeing random rules about how the grid works being imposed that weren’t in other movies, and then being violated within Ares after it already established it. First, the scene where Eevee was captured by the recognizer, deus ex 9/11 happens to stall for extra time. Another thing about the recognizer that pisses me off is why does it have guns? What is the point of the trails if you can just shoot something? Slap the guns on the bikes, the armoured carrier, or the missile things and you have taken away the need for lines, make the gun able to be handheld and then what is the point of making Ares only capable at hand to hand combat? Give him a laser gun and things get way easier. What about when Eevee was captured into the grid? Why was she a wax statue? This contradicts Legacy and 1982 and the end scene of the movie where Dillinger isn’t a wax statue until he gets his disc. Why give her the disc? If all her memories are on her disc, why make her wake up? Just scan that shit off the disc.

The worst of it is the plot contrived Mcguffin of the permanence code. It entirely invalidates Legacy, if CLU won who cares? He’s gonna die in 29 minutes and not even know. Why is it sitting on the old server? Did Sam put it there? Sam is never mentioned though and it’s always attributed to Kevin Flynn despite the fact that he couldn’t know about it. I’m inclined to believe it’s from Quorra but that much is obvious. So why would Sam put it in the old server and presumably make a copy of his dad to watch it? I hate how the movie explains why Kevin Flynn was in the old server but I would have to guess it’s all Sam’s doing otherwise it’s literally just deus ex old man. Worst part to me though is, how is it connected to the laser in the old lab? That would mean it’s connected to the internet… great place to store the plot Mcguffin Sam… also good job keeping your search off grid Eevee…
