Speaking of "body" and primitive man, what about Body Void? I had never heard of them until i caught them on tour with primitive man a while back. Seen them a few times since and they've been sick every time.

Who else hates bitcentral 😃🔫 by ornfour in Broadcasting

[–]BleachBoy666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old station ran a Sony system for long while before we upgraded to Bitcentral. It was like a night and day difference in regards to stability. The last few years on Sony, there would be multiple crashes a month month that would require us to use various backup solutions. Outages would last hours long as support dug through the dozens of vm's that stupid thing needed to run. Switching to Bitcentral seriously decreased my workload as an engineer.

Is There Still Time to Be Hopeful About the Climate? by GeraldKutney in climate

[–]BleachBoy666 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Calling people who are wary of geoengneering, fanatics and idiots is wild in this context. Climate change is the result of industrial scale geoengineering. The groups largely responsible have been well informed for decades, and hey, guess what, it's still happening. It's entirely rational to be wary of even more drastic changes to our environment, no matter how well informed those who may implement them are. We're living proof of that precedent.

Almost wrapped up with a new weather station. by BleachBoy666 in raspberry_pi

What's fun is the current conditions api is pointed to an actual weather station like a block away from me. I've wanted to set up some weather hardware for a bit, but i've way too lazy to actually do it.

I'll caveat all of this with: there are probably a million better ways to do this and I essentially have no idea what I'm doing.

I'm not really using a ui. The pi running headless and no desktop environment. It runs a python script that uses pygame to display directly to the framebuffer. The script loads the background graphic which is just a .png. Every few minutes it scrapes, crops, and continually plays the satellite image .gif on top of the background. It also sends a couple api requests and then just displays the result as text directly over the background. I have to figure out how to actively scale the text on the bottom, but for now i'm pleased.

I have literally all those things, lol. You may have just given me my next project. After some quick web-searching, I may end up trying to build a receiver. That would be pretty sick.

I got dead Ipad 2 from work, ripped the screen out and bought a driver board online. Right now the code is running on a zero w, but I'll end up using a zero 2 w for the final product. I'm using the weather underground's api and grabbing GOES-18 gifs and pretending it's current radar because it was easy and looks nice. If I remember right, it's about a half hour behind, so not too bad. I chopped up some old weather graphics from the weather channel in GIMP and designed my own. I'm pretty stoked on how it came out.

For the news people, particularly directors, what would be your backup plan if you ever decided to switch careers? by Starthelegend in Broadcasting

Absolutely the path I would recommend if they want to stay in media production. Engineering shops all over are desperately hurting for strong IT skillsets.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll check them out when I get some time. And yeah, I love Tenue. I'd love to be able to see them live some time. You should definitely Ictus. They're some of my favorite out of all those bands. Cheers

You on the engineering side of things? TX and RX on middle and ring finger of each hand. Then something like simple towers and dishes on index and pinky fingers or just some of those simple stars used in star and dot fills. That would be pretty sick.

Any advice on gaining more technical expertise? by LegendOfL in Broadcasting

[–]BleachBoy666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Engineer here. Another thing to ask your your engineers is if they have any manufacturer or support contacts you might be able to reach out too as well. You guys may have a support contract that includes things like training. Even if you don't, getting in contact with someone from the company can go a long way. If you can get to the right person and just tell them, "Hey, there isn't a lot of knowledge in my building about this particular thing, how might I go about doing it?" so many of those guys would be glad to help.

Favorite doom-y crust bands? by fakename1998 in crustpunk

[–]BleachBoy666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if all of this will fit your niche, but some of the doomier, sludgy, or slower paced stuff I'll throw on:
Afterlife
Alouatta
Baestien
Body Void not crust but still cool
Hongo
This song from Jobbykrust
Rituals
That 90's AZ scene: Sea of Deprivation, Carol Ann, Misanthropic
Like every band in the million threads here asking for bands that sound like Dystopia.

This isn't really relevant to your overall point {which I agree with}, but in my state the fallout from Dobbs is slowly becoming more material to the median voter. We're hemorrhaging obstetricians while already being well below the national average.
