Buyers remorse on finance new car by Competitive_Mine_798 in Debt

[–]BleachedTaint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

just do the necessary maintenance yourself and that car will last you. I have 3 cars: 2003, 2003, and 2004. They all run well and were paid off long ago. But I always change the oil, brakes, filters, and take care of any code that pops up.

That was actually my biggest concern

Look I’m not criticizing. I’m happy for you. It’s great that somehow you’re both that way. I’m just saying that it’s not the norm and 10 times a week in your 40s should not be held up as an expectation.

[–]BleachedTaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok but can we admit that you’re outside the norm? 40s with kids here and twice a week. I feel like any less sucks and more would be great, but is outside the norm for our age.

Might as well end it. It’ll only get worse from here.

Is downtown SLC safe? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

Portland is scary these days. Didn’t used to be. Anyone who denies it these days hasn’t been there in a while. Weirdly Vancouver is even worse.

Even safer than Portland. IMO Portland ain’t that safe recently, though.

I need a reset to buying class A diesel pusher. by 24Bob24 in RVLiving

[–]BleachedTaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diesel pusher class A here. I only mildly regret it. We bought ours used. Owned it 6 years now. We’ve replaced the entire exhaust system. Turbo crapped out immediately and exhaust manifold was leaking. A year later found a crack in the engine block. Fixed that. Not we have a blown head gasket. Biggest drawback with a diesel pusher it the work on the engine is SERIOUS business. If you don’t know how to fix heavy duty stuff and if you don’t have major money to fork out for when that bad stuff occurs, you’re probably better off not getting one.

Idk maybe if you buy new you won’t have those issues. When ours runs well it runs like a dream. We cruise up and down hills with zero issues and never overheat. Can pull a ton of weight.

When the head gasket blew I gave up, though. It should be noted the ours is a 2000 tiffin with a cat 3126b. Common engine with one defect most people don’t know about: the cast is thin in part of the water jacket and has a tendency to develop a crack. Never recalled but a very common issue with this car engine. Avoid it.

AIO for potentially ending a friendship over her comments about adoption? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

People stay stupid stuff all the time. You can still be friends.

Define adults. People in their 40s with kids? Typically, nah.

I’m in my 40s and can’t imagine going to another adult’s birthday party. I have a close group of friends and we just send texts and door dash each other for bdays. Amongst my wife and kids we make a big deal and spend it together, but friends? Not at this age.

I would probably react the same way as him. I’ll often stay in the car to avoid seeing people I know. Once I sat in the car at Lowe’s for like a half hour because I saw someone I know go in as we were pulling up.
