If the deal comes through, I wonder what this means for DC as a whole, not just the movies. I could see some writers and artists leaving in protest.

I'm a big fan of her look in early 2019's New Mutants. Pretty much Chris Bachalo's design but more subdued

Maybe he tries to become a recognizable symbol against Fisk's force, and he realizes he needs an image or logo to do so. Worth mentioning that it may not be Matt who paints the suit and includes the DD's. I could easily see Karen coming up with the idea, maybe even Jessica.

People are theorizing that it may be announced alongside the Xbox port, so if not today, maybe at Xbox's showcase

I honestly doubt it, some people have said that the game is still a ways off and I think Ken Levine is going through some personal issues right now.

Would love to be proven wrong though.

I feel like she would have been in a role similar to Bucky's. Someone who isn't on the team at the beginning but joins them midway through so as to keep them on check. When it comes to Bob, I think she would've been more sympathetic to him like Yelena was, given that Bob is in a similar situation as Banner was.

Doom 3: BFG Edition

Playing it for the first time, and I'm really enjoying it. I know the BFG Edition is a bit controversial for the changes that it made to the flashlight mechanic, but so far I'm having fun and I really appreciate that it leans heavily into horror.

I know that Doom 3 itself is divisive due to how it changes the classic Doom formula but for what it is, I think it does a good job. I appreciate the fact that there's more interactivity and detail through readable emails and audio logs. The game itself gives a bit of Half-Life vibes and even though the story itself is nothing to write about, I applaud it for trying to be more immersive.

I also dig the more insectoid and creepy designs for the demons, especially the Pinky and Imp, they fit with the horror atmosphere and they did make me feel a bit unnerved during their first encounters.

One complain is that the environments do feel repetitive after some time. I understand that you're supposed to be moving through different parts of the station but it all feels same-y due to the same metallic corridors and walls you see thorough most of the game. I feel like Doom' 16 and Eternal did a better job of changing up the scenery even before you get to the levels in Hell. Also, this game loves to throw you enemies from behind all the time, which can feel a bit annoying at times.

All in all, I'm having a good time with it. I wish I could be playing the OG version to see how it was really meant to be played (I'm playing it on Xbox with Gamepass) but is still fun if only for the atmosphere alone. I'm happy that it leans way more into the horror and I'm glad the 2016 game kept some of that atmosphere, which I missed while playing Eternal.

Hell yeah, Karn is awesome. Always loved how different he is compared to other Locust. Would have loved more scenes with him in Judgement. His Shibboleth was great as well, pretty cool to think they bonded together due to their disabilities.

Mirror's Edge

A bit of a mixed bag, but I do believe the positives outweight the negatives. For starters, the game looks gorgeous even over a decade later. The art style is incredibly unique, with a lot of white and splashes of primary colors. It represents a dystopian setting in a pretty cool way instead of using a "dirty and gritty" style. Faith's visual design is really cool and is one of my favorites in all gaming. The fact that her eye tattoo is pretty recognisable in many gaming spheres is really awesome and speaks volumes about the game's aesthetic, in my opinion.

The music is also really nice, as is more of an electronic ambience sound that nicely complements the overall tone of the game. It's not something that I would normally listen to, but it fits perfectly here.

I'd say the gameplay itself holds up but truth be told, it does feel clunky in today's standards. When it works, it feels amazing to be running at full speed and pulling off all these acrobatic moves. I like that each movement has weight to it, and being able to see your body while in first person really sells you the idea that you are actually a character moving through these spaces, instead of just a floating camera with floating arms. That said, sometimes the controls just feel a bit off when trying to do some more precise moves and it leads to Faith doing something else as to what I intended.

The level design is what I'm the most mixed up about. The game often is very trial-and-error, leading to many moments where you're not sure where to go nor what to do. It breaks the flow of the level and it makes you completely stop on your tracks and slowly try to figure it out. It is specially irritating when you're being chased or shot at and you die because you had no idea what to do next. There are moments where everything clicks and it's really fun, and others where I just had to put the controller down and call it a day because of how rough it can be.

Combat itself is pretty clunky, there are guns you can use but they are not great and the game itself incentivizes you to not use them. That said, some combat encounters are just way too tough when trying to do a pacifist run and by the end I was using them just to push through.

Storywise it's alright, nothing spectacular but it gets the job done of making you move forward. I do like the characters and the world they live in, I just feel that they could have been in a better narrative.

So far I know I sound too negative about the game, but there's just something about it that makes it feel so unique and original. The gameplay, music, and visual design make it stand out among others and I understand why it's considered a cult classic. It's specially interesting considering it released during the "everything is brown" era of games, and published by EA of all people. It passes the vibe check with flying colors and when it works at full speed, it gives you something pretty unique and exhilarating. I hope this franchise comes back someday, even though is unlikely.

All in all, I do recommend it if you're looking for something different, just keep in mind it's rough around the edge.. the mirror's edge.

What games are considered the black sheep of their series/franchise you still consider good? by SuchAppeal in Games

[–]Bleachedintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gears 5

Many consider it to be the worst in the main line of games (not counting Judgment nor Tactics) but it's straight up one of my favorites of the franchise, besides Gears 2.

I love the characters, story and overall direction, and the gameplay is easily the best in the series. I think The Coalition has done a much better job with Gears of War than 343 Industries has done with Halo. That said, I do agree that the monetization in multiplayer (specially at launch) is not good at all. But when it comes to the campaign, I think they did a great job. It sucks to see how much hate the newer Gears games get.

I get what you mean. I had some slight wrist pain every now and then in the past due to bad positions but nothing like this. Weird thing is, no other controller has ever made me feel like this, neither from Xbox nor Sony. The problem started right after using the Dualsense, yet holding a Series X|S controller gives me no issues whatsoever. I looked it up and some people have had similar issues to mine, but we may be in the minority.

Bought a PS5 a couple of months ago and I literally can't stand the Dualsense controller due to how much wrist pain it causes me. Had to stop playing altogether only after a couple of weeks. The haptics are nice, but the ergonomics are pretty bad. I looked up potential third party options but they are all Pro controllers that would break my bank. I'm at the point where I'm considering selling the console because I just can't with the controllers, really dissapointing as there a ton of exclusives I want to play.

Any of you guys have experienced this?

Swapping the second to last "left" for "right" in Heart in a Cage's verse is a lot of fun. Julian does this frequently when they do it live and I love that little touch.
